Our pre-kindergarten 4 students will come to music lass and get to participate in singing, instrument playing, listening, creating, and movement/dance activities. The focus will be in getting the students to feel comfortable in participating while also introducing them to the basic concepts of music (fast/slow, loud/soft, high/low, long/short).
During the school year our kindergarteners will practice and learn about the basic concepts of music (fast/slow, loud/soft, high/low, long/short) and learn songs that correlate to their classroom studies.
First graders will work on rhythms learning the quarter note (ta), eighth notes (ta-di), and quarter rest, as well as review the basic music concepts learned in kindergarten. This year they will also learn to read the pitches "so", "mi", and "la" on the staff.
Second graders will review the pitches "so", "mi", and "la" and the quarter note, eighth note, and quarter rest rhythms. They will also add "do", "re", and half notes, whole notes, and sixteenth notes to their reading repertoire.
Third graders will focus on the previously learned pitches ("do", "re", "mi", "so", and "la), which we call the pentatonic scale. We will learn about new pitches "low la" and "low so". We will also review our other rhythms (quarter, eighth, sixteenth, half, and whole notes and rests) and learn the pitch names of the music alphabet (A,B,C,D,E,F,G).
Fourth graders will review the pentatonic scale and learn the pitches "fa" and "ti". We will continue to work on all rhythms previously learned, including combined sixteenth and eighth note, dotted note, and syncopation patterns. We will also work more with the music alphabet note names (A,B,C,D,E,F,G).
Fifth graders will continue to work on their music literacy skills in preparation for music ensembles and fine arts classes in secondary school. This will include playing ukuleles to get string playing experience and recorders to practice playing a wind instrument.
All students of all grades will learn proper singing techniques; playing ukuleles, Orff, and rhythm percussion instruments; instruments of the orchestra; listening skills; music history and cultures; and LOTS of dance and movement. There will be many opportunities to perform and see how much music can make their lives even more "DINO-MITE"!
