Medications
Medication may be administered at school with the following policies:
A parent/guardian's written request that there is a need for medication during the school day and the parent provides the medication
Includes both prescription and over-the-counter medications
Any medication (daily, as-needed, short term)Â
Prescription and over-the-counter medication must be in the original container and properly labeled
Medication is not provided by the school except for Benadryl/Epinephrine in case of a possible anaphylactic reaction
All medication must be kept in the school clinic and administered by the school nurse, health assistant or school employee
Including cough drops (Ricola brand cough drops are not allowed to be stored in the clinic as they are deemed to be an herbal substance)
Per RRISD Health Services "No district employee will administer herbal substances, anabolic steroids or dietary supplements except as provided in Round Rock ISD Policy: FFAC (local)."
The school nurse will strictly follow appropriate container dosage, age and frequency for over-the-counter medications that are needed for students. If there needs to be an alteration in any of these, a physician's note and signature must be provided
A student may be allowed to self administer inhaled asthma medication (See Asthma Section), an EpiPen or diabetes treatment ONLY if...
Written permission for the physician allowing the student to self-medicate or treat
The nurse has counseled the parent on the school's inability to monitor the health condition if they choose to use a self-carry medication
