RRISD offers many volunteer opportunities in a variety of sports and events. You can volunteer weekly with coaches and athletes in a variety of sports, or you can choose to volunteer for a single event on a designated day.
Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age. However, younger students may volunteer, but students under 15 require an adult chaperone at the event.
How can I volunteer?
There are 3 levels of volunteer options:
1) Weekly Volunteers
2) Day of Event Volunteers
3) Unified Sports Partner Volunteers

Weekly Volunteers for Round Rock ISD Special Olympics involves becoming "buddies" to help coaches during the practices. Weekly volunteers can participate in a variety of roles, dependent upon the sport. The sport determines how much help, what kind of help, and whether or not knowledge of the sport is required. All practices are after school hours, times and locations vary, depending on the sport.
RRISD Aquatics: July through September
Location: Nitro – Cedar Park
When: Sundays, July through September
Time: Afternoons - TBD
Staff incorporates 5+ volunteers to support the coaches and athletes.
Experience: Some level of Aquatics skill is recommended.
RRISD Bowling: September through November
Location: Spare Time Texas - Pflugerville
When: Sunday afternoons, September through November
Practice Times: 1:30 - 3:30
Staff incorporates 15+ volunteers to assist bowlers
Experience: Experience in bowling is not required.
RRISD Powerlifting: September through November
Location: McNeil HS Weight Room
When: Thursdays, September through November
Practice Times: 5:15 pm – 7:00pm
Staff incorporates @5 volunteers or to assist powerlifters and/or be a Unified Partner.
Powerlifting also offers Unified Partner opportunities
Experience is recommended for the safety of the athletes.
RRISD Basketball: January through February
Locations: Cedar Valley MS gymnasium, Round Rock HS gymnasium and Hopewell MS gymnasium
When: Tuesday’s, January through February
Practice Times: 6:00 pm – 7:15 pm
Staff incorporates 10+ volunteers for Individual Skills/Team Skills/3 on 3
Basketball also offers Unified team play.
Partners practice and compete with Special Olympics athletes
Experience: Extensive experience is not required, but recommended for Unified Partner participation, which involves playing on a team.
RRISD Soccer: February through May
Location: Pearson Ranch MS
When: Tuesday’s, March through April
Practice Times: 6:00 pm – 7:15 pm
Soccer offers Unified Team play.
Unified Partners train and compete on the team with the Special Olympics athletes.
Staff also incorporates 7+ volunteers to support Individual Skills
Experience: Some level of soccer experience is recommended, but not required.
RRISD Track and Field: February through May
Location: McNeil HS Track
When: Mondays, February through April
Practice Times: 5:45 pm – 7:15 pm
Staff incorporates 10+ volunteers
Experience: No prior experience is required.
RRISD Tennis: February through April
Location: McNeil HS Tennis Courts
When: Thursdays, March through April
Time: 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm
Staff incorporates 10+ volunteers
Experience: Some level of tennis experience is recommended, but not required.
RRISD Cycling: February through April
Location: RRISD Athletic Complex Visitors Parking Lot – Parmer Lane
When: Wednesdays beginning March through May
Time: 5:30pm - 6:30pm
Staff incorporates 2+ volunteers
Experience: Ability to cycle alongside the athletes is recommended.
These are events that occur on a single day, such as a track meet, a tennis competition, competition, or a public relations event that requires additional support of volunteers.

RRISD offers numerous sports in which non-disabled peers train and compete with the Special Olympics athletes. The Unified Partner becomes part of the team, practices with the team, and will compete with the team at local and area competitions.
Round Rock ISD offers Unified team options in Aquatics, Bowling, Powerlifting, Basketball, Tennis, Track and Field and Soccer. Potential Unified Partners must be in middle school, high school, or recent graduates of RRISD.
The volunteer must commit to all practices and competitions throughout the 8 week season, and completion of SOTx paperwork/registration is required.
