More Music Enrichment Resources!
We have a lot of fun moving, singing, playing instruments and learning to read and write music according to the Music TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills) concepts for music during our music class! Classes are held twice, bi-weekly, for 50 minutes and every other Friday for 25 minutes. There is a total of 125 minutes of music instruction every two weeks.
Some things that we learn at music are:
- Rhythms: quarter, eighth, sixteenths, and 8th/16th notes and rests (through playing, reading and writing)
- Musical intervals & pitches of the extended pentatonic scale using Kodaly-Curwen handsigns as well as reading and writing them on the music staff
- Folk dances and games from around the world!
- Listening and/or movement activities to a variety of music in different styles
- Solo & group singing of unison & rounds and canons
- Learning about composers and instrument families of the orchestra
- Playing instruments as an ensemble (xylophone/metallophone/glockenspiel, simple percussion instruments)
- Learning to read the lines and spaces of the music staff with letter names
- Beginning recorder instruction (a pre-band woodwind instrument) and "Recorder Karate"
- Opportunity to join 4th & 5th grade choir, after school on Fridays!
