More Music Enrichment Resources

Second grade music class continues developing and building on first grade's concepts! We move into some more challenging music activities and work on our Music TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills) concepts for music.

Some things that we work on in class are:

• Simple Rhythms & reinforcing the beat (through learning, playing, reading and writing). Students continue to hone their skills with quarter and eighth notes (ta & tadi), quarter rest, and add in the half note (ta-a).
• Musical intervals & pitches using Kodaly-Curwen handsigns as well as reading and writing them on the music staff. Second graders will practice identifying and using "sol", "mi" and will add in "la" and "do" this year.
• Folk dances and games from around the world!
• Listening and/or Movement activities to a variety of music in different styles
• Solo & group singing of unison & rounds
• Learning about & playing instruments (xylophone/metallophone/glockenspiel, simple percussion instruments). Playing in an ensemble format with their classmates.
