Tree Frogs At Work

This week:

Math: We will finish up this unit on algebraic relationships and measurement with two exciting projects. During the first project, each student will design and build a "tiny house". They must meet the requirements of the trailer size, living areas, and calculate area and perimeter. For extra credit, they can add copper tape, batteries, and an LED light to create a circuit inside their tiny house! Then we will end the week with a fun "Amazing Race" elapsed time challenge. They will have to stay on time and make it through each leg of the race to travel the world.

Science: We are out in the preserve this week. We will be testing the quality of the pond water on Tuesday, identifying types of flowers and plant structures, then discussing how ecosystems change when disasters like local wildfires destroy certain areas. We will be outside most of this week, so please remind your Owl or Tree Frog to dress appropriately.

Social Studies: We are completely finished with the Texas Revolution and working our way through the infancy years of the new Republic. There were many growing pains as Texas elected 3 presidents to run the Republic, each with different agendas and beliefs. As we learn about Sam Houston, Mirabeau Lamar, and Anson Jones, the students will be researching the topics of statehood, debt, treatment of Native Americans, and the military. We will conclude our unit with a debate using Chatterpix.
