On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week our students will be taking the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) tests:

Monday, May 14: G3 & G4 Math STAAR Test

Tuesday, May 15: G3 & G4 Reading STAAR Test

Wednesday, May 16: G5 Science STAAR Test

On these days Laurel Mountain will be closed to visitors. We utilize rooms all over campus for testing and we need to ensure all hallways are quiet and secure. If you have a student in 3rd, 4th or 5th grade please refrain from scheduling doctor appointments that will require your student to be pulled out of class on scheduled testing days.

Optional Parent Input Form for 2018-19 Class Placement

In the next several weeks, we will begin our process to develop class lists for the 2018-19 school year. Current grade level teachers will meet with administrators, special education teachers, TAG teachers, our counselor, fine arts teachers, and PE teachers to discuss preliminary class lists for the upcoming school year. We take many factors into consideration including gender, academic needs, social and behavioral needs, and parent input in order to create balanced classes of students whose strengths and abilities will complement each other.

If your child has significant medical, emotional, social, behavioral, or academic needs that may require special attention when creating a class list, or assignment to a teacher, please click here to complete our online class input form by Tuesday, May 15, 2018. The information you provide will assist us as we build classes for next year. *Note: this form is intended for LME students entering 1st - 5th grade next year. Incoming kindergartner and outgoing 5th grade parents do not need to complete this form. Incoming kindergartners have already completed a similar form as part of your kinder registration. Due to the difficulties associated with requests for specific teachers, forms requesting a specific teacher will not be considered.

Marker and Crayon Recycling/Reuse Initiative

With Earth day just past us, and less than a month for the school year to end, it's time to start clearing out backpacks, classrooms bins and drawers! 4th grader Suhaani Srireddy and Mrs. Ferriola are organizing a recycling initiative at LME to divert school stationery such as markers and crayons from getting into the landfill. We started this last year and had a great response! Last year, thanks to all of your help, we were able to prevent over 2,500 markers and over 80 pounds of crayons from going into the trash! The markers were sent to Crayola to be converted into fuel and the crayons were taken to the Austin Creative Reuse Center so that they could be reused for different purposes.

Here is a short video on the Crayola Colorcycle program for markers:

So Lions, let’s prevent hundreds of markers and crayons from getting into the landfill! There will be boxes put up in the hallways and in front of the library. Please make sure you drop off your old, unwanted markers (sharpies, highlighters and dry erase too!) and crayons from home/school. We hope to get even more markers and crayons than last year!! For more information please contact Suhaani/Sharmila Srireddy.

Parents and leaders will be on hand to answer questions. Current Cub Scouts will be demonstrating a cross over ceremony, and new scouts can learn about how fun scouting is with friends and family. Sign up on the spot to become a Cub Scout for the 2018-2019 school year! If you're new to scouting, no worries. You're invited to come, ask questions, learn and have fun.

Reminder to all LME Cub and Boy Scouts: this week, wear a pack t-shirt on Tuesday and your uniform on Thursday for Spring into Scouting Week.
