Open House 2021 Video Information
This course is about the history and modern experiences of African-Americans in the United States. The course was approved by the State of Texas Board of Education in 2018, and this is the first year it will be taught in RRISD.
In African American Ethnic Studies the students will:
Interrogate the nature of identity as it relates to race, nationality, and ethnicity
Question the impact that culture, economics, geography, and politics have on structures of power and connectivity for African Americans
Analyze methods of resistance and leadership from the era of slavery until the current day
Explore local history and its connection to national and international, as well as to individuals
