Session 4

This is an information session about the changes to the Physics, Chemistry and IPC TEKS due to streamlining. The session will also review changes to the ARRC for the 2017-18 school year. Teachers will have time to collaborate within their content area.

Teachers will receive initial training on the Scientific Minds Science Starters and how to set up classes.

Scientific Minds is a teacher-built company that provides online teaching tools for science. The Science Starters programs support scientific literacy, vocabulary acquisition, test preparedness, and college readiness. It also includes tools for review, remediation, and English language proficiency. The Science Starters programs can be easily integrated into daily lessons to provide state standards support while providing content support for science labs and activities.

Breakout EDU is an immersive games platform for learners of all ages. Using the Breakout EDU kit, players work collaboratively to solve a series of critical thinking puzzles in order to open a locked box. Games are available for all ages and content areas.

This session is designed to get you started. You'll have an opportunity to experience a game as well as learn how to access the games library, set up your locks, and facilitate your first Breakout EDU game.

A panel of teachers discuss how they successfully motivate students to engage and achieve. The panel members will also answer audience questions.

A panel of middle school students discuss their math and science experiences in Round Rock ISD and answer teacher questions.

A panel of teacher leaders discuss how they have grown their PLCs over time in order to improve all members practices, increase alignment, and better instruction. Panel members will also answer audience questions.

Successful teachers set goals and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses. They focus on practicing and improving their skills in order to meet their goals. A panel of teachers will discuss what being a reflective teacher means to them and how it has improved their practice. The panel members will also answer teacher questions.

A panel of math and science teachers will discuss strategies they use to support student writing and improve student writing skills. How do students learn math and science through writing? Panel members will also answer audience questions.

Engage in an Argument Driven Inquiry lesson for Force and Motion.

Many teachers are uncomfortable (or downright fearful) when it comes to communicating with parents. This session will provide teachers with a set of tools they can use to develop their own system of parent communication that will proactively avoid most problems. Teachers will also walk away equipped to have difficult conversations with parents when the stakes are high.

Students exposed to tablets and smartphones from birth are no longer impressed by them. A virtual reality experience gives them a total immersion experience bringing out high degree of attention, curiosity, and interest in the topic you are teaching.
