Hi Future Rangers,
We are looking forward to the Spring semester, and hosting our incoming 5th graders for Move Up Day at the Deerpark Campus, Incoming 5th Grade Family Night, and counselor visits to the elementary school campuses to meet our incoming 6th graders!
We are excited to join you as you prepare for your child's transition from elementary to middle school. Please see our informative presentation on elective and sixth-grade class offerings, helping your child complete his/her choice sheet, and what it means to be a Deerpark RANGER.
Campus Visits: Choice Sheet Presentations
Counselors will be visiting campuses to assist in Choice Selections.
These presentations will happen at the elementary school during the school day for the 5th grade students. (times/dates will be updated when available)

5th grade students will submit their choice sheets in their classrooms via Google Form on February 12 (13th in case of snow day).
All Choice Sheets are due to DMS counselors by February 16.
If there is a mistake on a submitted choice sheet, they will have an opportunity to make corrections during our course verification window.

Art
This course extends the learning of basic elements of art and principals of design, art history and art appreciation. Students design, develop, and create art using a variety of media. ***Paired with a semester of Discovery

Attend the placement drive on Saturday, Feb 24th, 2024 at Deerpark during your time slot. Try out different instruments and pick your instrument for the 2024-2025 school year!

FUTURE RANGER BAND MEMBER WEBSITE
Choir
Beginning Choir Students will learn effective vocal technique, ear training, ensemble performance skills, and music reading. Students perform in 3 to 4 concerts during the year, and have the opportunity to participate in several social activities and field trips as part of the Deerpark Choir Family!!

Dance
Students will learn basic elements of dance styles and acquire the wellness information and skills to become healthy adults.
Orchestra
Students develop basic playing skills,practice habits, music reading, and listening skills, while playing violin, viola, cello or bass.
Theater
First year students explore elements of drama and conventions of theatre, interpret characters, voice and body expression and the relationship of theatre to history, society, and culture.
Ranger Non-Fine ARts Electives
Physical Education
Students will develop fitness knowledge and motor skills basic to efficient movement that promote healthy lifestyle choices and improve the quality of student’s lives. All students must complete four (4) semesters from the following wellness/physical education courses.
Students who want to take MS 1 Dance in 6th grade may choose to earn it as a Fine Arts or a PE required credit.

The goal of the class is to prepare students to be successful in middle school in preparation for success in high school and college.

DISCOVERY WEBSITE
Spanish
This course introduces the basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing across all three modes of communication: interpretive, interpersonal and presentational. Students learn common expressions to communicate about basic, everyday topics and are expected to actively participate in class. Students who already know Spanish should not sign up for Spanish1A/1B. Those students should take Spanish 1 in High school, or take the AAPPL test to earn high school Spanish credit.
