Your Questions Answered

Does Rosebery offer Food tech?

Yes we do! In Year 7 you will be on a tech rotation of five technology subjects which include Food Tech, Wood Tech and Media.

What is it like on the first day?

This year will be a little different and we plan to have a few days for you to settle in before you start your normal routine at Rosebery. On the first day of term you will arrive at school earlier than the rest of the school, you will have an assembly, you will spend lots of time with Mrs Ringer, Miss Canessa and your form tutor and you will spend the first few days getting used to Rosebery and getting to know everyone in your form and year group.

How many classes are in a day?

Each day at Rosebery you have five lessons which are 1 hour long. Form time starts at 8:30am until 8:50am. Break is at 10:50am until 11:10am and lunch is from 1:10pm until 2pm.

Will we be given a map or guided tour to our classes?

Your form tutors will provide you with a map of the school on your first day and there will be lots of teachers around to help you find your way to your lessons. We also have some fun activities planned to help you find your way around the school too! However, if you'd like to start getting familiar with the layout at Rosebery, why not watch our tour of the school with Eva and Lauren (Year 8 students), found in the 'Year 7 Zone'.

When will you give us the list of things that we will need for school like stationary etc?

The school provides all resources and exercise books necessary for lessons. Here are some additional things you will need:

  • A large, strong school bag.

  • Pencil case with pencils, selection of coloured pencils, highlighter pens, felt tip pens, eraser, pencil sharpener, glue stick, ruler and scissors.

  • Biros including blue, black, red and green.

  • Whiteboard pen.

  • Mathematics set including protractor and a pair of compasses.

  • Scientific calculator e.g. Casio FX-83 model.

  • Hair ties for all practical lessons eg DT, Science and PE.

  • English/foreign language dictionaries.

  • Large padlock for locker (preferably combination).

Will we get to find out our form tutor before we start Rosebery? How will I find out what form class I’ll be in?

Mrs Ringer and Miss Canessa are currently speaking to all your primary school teachers to get to know you all a bit better and then we will start to sort out form classes and tutors. All this information, including what house you are in, is likely to be shared with you in a letter before September.

Are the tasks and challenges you post under English and Math mandatory?

The tasks posted in the Year 7 Zone are all optional activities for you to enjoy, to keep you busy, until you join us at Rosebery. Look out for some fun science experiments you can do at home, coming soon!

Will we get to write down a list of people we would like to be in the same class as? Can I choose a friend to be in my tutor group? Can they be from a different Primary school?

Your language choices will determine which side of the year group you will be on and this will play a role in deciding which form group you are in. Mrs Ringer and Miss Canessa will also consider abilities, strengths and weaknesses when creating form groups and while some students will find they are in the same form group as other students from their primary schools due to numbers, lots of you will be placed without primary buddies as this is an important opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. There are also lots of opportunities for you to mix with students outside of your form groups.

How often do you post things on the website? Do you continue to post things when we are at school?

We are updating the website every week, sometimes multiple times a week, with lots of videos from your teachers and challenges for you to get involved in. Shortly we will be uploading your summer challenges as well as information for parents too! Once we are back to live teaching with you at Rosebery we will no longer post on the website but will use our Year 7 Instagram (roseberyyear7) account as our virtual platform.

Due to lock down, will we have a transition day?

We will shortly be in touch with your parents to invite them to a virtual meeting with Mrs Ringer and Miss Canessa in which we will discuss our plans for transition and summer school.
