Letters from Current Year 7 Students

To you; the new year 7’s,

Year 7 has been amazing! There have been so many exciting things to do and I have made friends with so many kind people that have made me smile every day.

Originally, I was a little bit scared because I was going to be with some new people that I didn’t really know. I was going to be in a new building, different teachers for each lesson, different classrooms for each lesson and having a lot more responsibility. It was going to be different. However, I was looking forward to making new friends and trying new things.

On the settling in day, before September, I remember walking onto the quad and seeing millions of people. There were teachers smiling and making me feel welcome. I just couldn’t wait to start my experience at Rosebery. I had some of my primary school friends by my side- who were going to be in my class- and we made our way to our new form. There were lots of little clusters of people. I went to say hi to some of them and we had a nice chat.

Later in the day, we took part in lots of fun activities, got to know the layout of the school building a bit better and met some new teachers. Some of them are my teachers now.

During year 7 there are many events and challenges that you can take part in and win prizes, certificates and more, such as:

  • At the beginning of the school year, you will be given a card with circles and you have to try and get signatures from all the teachers in each of them. To get them, you have to follow the Rosebery Year 7 motto 'have courage and be kind’. The first person who gets them all signed, gets achievement points.

  • You can make your own assembly for the rest of the year to watch.

  • In PE, there is a tournament where you have to play a tag game where you have to snatch the oppositions bibs. The form group that wins earns achievement points.

  • At Halloween, there is a craft party with sweetsss!

  • In December, there is a competition where you can design your own Christmas card and the winner gets their design to be the representation for the Rosebery Christmas card.

  • Just before Christmas holidays, the form who raises the most money at the charity events gets to have a pizza party.

  • There is a Valentine’s challenge where you have to complete certain tasks and then complete some tricky riddles. The first person who does it, wins a hamper basket that will arrive before Valentine’s Day.

There were also other arrangements that we were going to do e.g., the roller disco, a picnic etc. but due to the current situation we are in with the world, we couldn’t, but hopefully you will!

The Head of Hear and Deputy Head of Year support you all along the way and do super cool 'tik toking’ 😁

I wish you all the best on your Rosebery adventure! 😁

Dear future Year 7s,

First of all I just want to say welcome to Rosebery. I am sure you will love it here at your new high school. It might be scary at first but I am positive you will enjoy it. I want to start off by saying that if there is anything at all that you are worried about or scared you will always be welcome to talk to our Head and Deputy Head of Year 7 Miss Ringer and Miss Canessa. They are both really lovely and kind and have always had time to talk to me if I was worried about school.

You can also come to talk to the Year 8s because we know what it is like here, scary, huge and overwhelming at first. I remember my first day. I was so worried about not knowing anyone and finding my way around the school because all my friends from primary School went to other schools so i felt very alone. But I soon made amazing friends that I will keep in touch with forever and so will you. So never feel like you can’t talk to us because our doors are always open.

So, what can i tell you about everyday life here at Roseberry? Well, when you get your lunch all the Year 7s would head to the canteen and line up in a queue to grab your food and pay. Then you would go along to a tent on the tennis courts and sit down with friends and enjoy lunch. It might be alot to take in but trust me it gets a lot easier if you know how it all works.

Moving on to the subjects they are all amazing but if i had to pick two it would be science because you get to do practicals which are so fun and fascinating. Also P.E cause you will learn how to be fit and healthy as well as learning how to play new sports such as cheerleading and netball. I hope you love all the subjects. For example English, who knew Shakespeare could be interesting and amusing.

That's it from me just one last thing, I really hope you love year 7 because I know I definitely did. See you around!
