Find a comfy place with no distractions.
Cuddle up. This is a very special and important time in your childs development. There is no substitution from your lap and your attention. Do not use books on technology at this time.
Have books readily available in many places throughout the house. Example: A basket in the bedroom, living room, playroom, bathroom, etc.
Choose age appropriate books.
Young children have varied attention spans. Choose books that have fewer words and engaging pictures.
Think about what topics your child is interested in and get books about those.
When reading talk about:
Characters
Setting (where it takes place)
Problem/ Solution
Predictions
Connections (draw connections to experiences that your child has done.)
Always ask questions about what you are reading
