• Find a comfy place with no distractions.

• Cuddle up. This is a very special and important time in your childs development. There is no substitution from your lap and your attention. Do not use books on technology at this time.

• Have books readily available in many places throughout the house. Example: A basket in the bedroom, living room, playroom, bathroom, etc.

• Choose age appropriate books.

• Young children have varied attention spans. Choose books that have fewer words and engaging pictures.

• Think about what topics your child is interested in and get books about those.

When reading talk about:

• • Characters

  • Setting (where it takes place)

  • Problem/ Solution

  • Predictions

  • Connections (draw connections to experiences that your child has done.)

  • Always ask questions about what you are reading
