Communication

Through this difficult situation St John's will be trying to make things as normal as possible for our students. Thank you for working with us to make this situation work. We will be using current and some new ways to engage with your child and the family:

  • The school will continue to use current platforms - email, Facebook, SMS - to share information with the whole community;

  • Teachers will communicate with you directly through email and by phone (when necessary for 'check ins' to see how things are going);

  • Teachers will communicate with your child using already established online portals - Google Classroom/Harpara (each year level will be slightly different depending on what is already used in the classroom and the year level; these will be more middle and upper years methods);

  • Teachers will be communicating with many families. Please remind your child to be patient when waiting for support or feedback. Even if it takes time, every teacher will stay in touch with you to make sure that your child is well, managing their learning, making progress, and knows that they are cared for.

Student Check In

In Week 2 we will commence check-ins with students and their parents who have been learning from home. The aim of these check-ins is for teachers to engage with students AND their parent/carer about:

· The work completed over the previous days and give feedback to the student. Teachers have been requesting a variety of completed work samples to be returned to them – this will be discussed during the Zoom;

· Have the student share something they have liked about the learning;

· Any additional learning/activities they have been doing at home;

· Have the student read a book/read some writing to the teacher;

· Clarify any parent questions or concerns.

Classes have been allocated Zoom (videoconference, like FaceTime) or phone feedback check-ins on the following days, (based on a 5-day rotation over the next two weeks):

  • “A” classes (e.g. 2A) will be Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Tuesday, Thursday;

  • “B” classes (e.g. 2B) will be Tuesday, Thursday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

**N.B. this will also be for weeks 4 and 5. At times, Teacher Assistants may also join the Classroom Teacher during the conversation.

Do all students/family need to have a check-in meeting?

· YES, if your child has not returned to school this term;

· NO, if your child has been at school for more than 1 day per week.
