What are Career Clusters?
Career Clusters are groups of occupations that have in common a set of foundational knowledge and skills. There are 16 nationally recognized clusters that contain multiple Career Pathways. A Career Pathway represents a grouping of occupations within a cluster that share a base level of common knowledge and skill.

Why are Career Clusters important?
- Create clear educational pathways from secondary to postsecondary education to the workplace
- Provide information and experiences so students can make informed educational choices
- Help students design individual plans of study
- Comprise a key element in enhancing economic development by connecting schools with business and industry
WACS maintains a DHS/DRS grant in the Fulton county high schools titled STEP (Secondary Transitional Experience Program). Students with disabilities are referred to this program for training/placement which aids students in preparing for the transition to post-secondary education, employment and community involvement during and after high school. Through a variety of STEP experiences, students learn skills to become productive self-sufficient citizens. Age 14 is the earliest a student can be referred to the program. A referral can be made by contacting the local high school, DHS/DRS, or WACS. When students plan ahead for adult life, they are more successful in: Completing school, attaining employment, and living independently.
