Tier 2 instruction is strategically planned instruction and supports, which are designed to target specific skills or to reach students in a different way to ensure progression toward mastery. Approximately 15% of students need this additional support and instruction in order to meet grade-level expectations.
Practice of this academic instruction includes the following effective approaches:
Using formal and informal assessments to determine where to meet each student and what specific goals to help them develop next.
Planning and designing instruction which meets those goals.
Utilizing evidenced-based curriculum to extend and intervene.
Monitoring students' progression.
Developing flexible and dynamic groupings, which adjust based upon progression or lack thereof.
Tier 2 Social-Emotional-Behavioral Intervention Supports
Our site maintains an Intervention Inventory, which outlines a description of who might benefit from each intervention support, a fading/graduation plan, and data used to indicate need and/or progress. The intervention team is responsible for reviewing all interventions on at least an annual basis, and determining whether interventions need to be modified, or if additional intervention should be added based on the changing needs of the student body. Guardian involvement is very important throughout the term of the intervention to ensure success and/or make adaptations to meet the student's needs.
