Tier 2

Tier 2 instruction is strategically planned instruction and supports, which are designed to target specific skills or to reach students in a different way to ensure progression toward mastery. Approximately 15% of students need this additional support and instruction in order to meet grade-level expectations.

Practice of this academic instruction includes the following effective approaches:

1. Using formal and informal assessments to determine where to meet each student and what specific goals to help them develop next.

2. Planning and designing instruction which meets those goals.

3. Utilizing evidenced-based curriculum to extend and intervene.

4. Monitoring students' progression.

5. Developing flexible and dynamic groupings, which adjust based upon progression or lack thereof.
