Starting in 2025-26
Starting in the 2025-26 school year, the Virginia High School League (VHSL) should officially recognize esports as a fully sanctioned varsity academic activity. This means schools will compete against teams within their designated classification. East Rockingham High School (ERHS) is in Class 3, meaning we will compete against schools in Classes 1-3, creating a more balanced and competitive playing field for our students.
Our goal is to secure at least one regional matchup during the VHSL esports season. Additionally, if we have enough coaching volunteers, we plan to offer esports outside of the VHSL season, allowing students more opportunities to compete and improve their skills.
Below is our planned esports structure for the 2025-26 school year, including potential games based on student interest and administrative approval.
📌 Click on each game name for more details of what the game is.
💡 The non-VHSL season will also serve as practice time for students preparing for VHSL-sanctioned competitions.

To ensure we can offer games during the Regional Season (Non-VHSL Season), it's important that we first prioritize fielding teams for the VHSL Season. The continuation of our Regional Season offerings depends on having a strong commitment to VHSL competition. If students only participate in Regional Season games without also engaging in the VHSL Season, there may be a risk of limiting or discontinuing these opportunities in the future.
Eagles Esports is a competitive Varsity VHSL Academic program designed to represent our school in VHSL matches. The program’s existence and funding are directly tied to our ability to field VHSL teams. Without these teams, the funding that supports the esports program would not be available, which could impact the overall continuation of the program.
That said, we also want to create space for students who are interested in playing casually and enjoying the social aspect of gaming with friends. We believe that by balancing both competitive and casual opportunities, we can offer a well-rounded and successful program that benefits all students.
