What's my role?

I'm a member of the AVID site team. I teach Chemistry (which is the required science class for 10th grade). I also occasionally teach science elective classes such as Forensic Science or Astronomy.

How do I use AVID strategies in my classroom?

I frequently use WICOR strategies in science class. Students practice a lot of inquiry while doing experiments. They also practice organizing and writing when they analyze and report the results of their investigations.

What is my history with AVID (time on the team, instruction, training)?

I've been on the AVID site team most of my years at Rockford. I've attended AVID summer institute several times and taught the AVID 10 elective class in the past. I also support teachers' implementation of AVID instructional strategies schoolwide.

What is the most important thing I would like you to know about AVID?

AVID and the activities students do in AVID builds community, confidence, stamina, grit and relationships with peers and teachers.
