What's my role?
I teach the AVID 9 Elective Class and English 10 at Rockford High School.
How do I use AVID strategies in my classroom?
As an English teacher, I use AVID strategies across all my classes. Reading and writing are core components of the AVID program, and my students practice each of these skills in every class period. In my lessons, I also frequently encourage students to think critically, ask questions, collaborate with one another, and stay organized, all of which are essential components of the AVID elective. All of these skills are essential for success beyond the classroom, which is why they are so important to master.
What is my history with AVID (time on the team, instruction, training)?
I am new to the AVID program and am excited to keep learning and growing! To prepare for this academic year, I have attended the AVID summer institute and met with the AVID site team. I am very excited to be a part of the program this year.
What is the most important thing I would like you to know about AVID?
AVID is a program that believes in the potential of every student. It provides all students with the tools that they need to succeed in high school and beyond, empowering students to take ownership of their education, and I am excited to be a part of it.
