Backlit Image Enhancement Using Retinex

This project aims to improve the visibility of under-exposed regions in images while preserving the details in other regions using the Retinex theory. The Retinex theory is a color perception model that explains how the human visual system perceives color and brightness. By applying this theory, we can enhance the visual details of under-exposed regions in images while preserving the natural appearance of the other regions. The proposed method is evaluated on a set of benchmark images, and the results demonstrate that our approach effectively enhances the visual quality of under-exposed regions. This approach has potential applications in various domains such as photography, surveillance, medical imaging, and computer vision.

The application requires the MATLAB runtime.

GUI is available on both Windows and macOS operating systems.
