Level 1 & 2 Combo Dancers

High Half Up & Half Down and curls. If the costume came with a hair accessory, please place it in front of the ponytail.

Ballet 1 Wednesday

Slicked Back Ballet Bun. If the costume came with a hair accessory, please place it to the right of the bun.

All Other Class Hairstyles

Slicked back Low Ponytail. If the costume came with a hair accessory, please place it to the right of the ponytail.

If your dancer has multiple classes in recital with different hairstyles and is unable to style their own hair quickly please note the following:

Combo dancers ALSO in Mini Acro should wear their hair in the Slicked Back Ponytail for the entire show (This is for their safety with the acro skills)
Ballet 4/5/Pointe Dancers & Ballet 1 Wednesday dancers in other dances should wear their hair in the Slicked Back Bun for the entire show

High Half Up & Half Down and Curls

If you are not using a heated curling iron, it is highly recommended you do Steps 1 & 2 the night before Dress Rehearsal and Recital Day.

Step 1-Make the ponytail

Apply dime-sized amount of hair gel to hands and smooth into hair from center part and down. Comb throughout. Use a comb or parting comb and pull the top half of hair (measure from the top of the ear and across) into a high pony towards the top of the head. Secure with a hair tie or hair elastic.

Step 2A -Curl the hair

Heated Curling Iron:

Take small sections of the hair and wrap around the iron/wand. Try to not overlap hair. Hold for a moment and remove wand from hair. Repeat on all sections.

Step 2B -Curl the hair

Non-Heated Curling Methods: Depending on the product you have, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to achieve the curled look. It is highly recommended this is done the night before and the dancer sleeps with the curlers in their hair overnight. Tying a bandana over the hair helps keep them more in place as they sleep!

The next day, carefully remove the curlers and separate curls into more curls.

Step 3-Finish the look

Use hair spray all over to ensure curls stay in tact for the day. You can use a toothbrush or edge brush to smooth down any flyaways near the face.

Make Up Application

Make up is necessary to avoid a washed-out look under the bright stage lights. Please use the following directions as a guide.

1. Use an All-Day Lipstick.

2. Use Base & Powder to match skin tone.

3. Eye Shadow (Neutral shades) - Use base color over lid, then darker in the crease.

4. Eyeliner (Black/brown) - Use on upper lid only.

5. Mascara (black) – parental discretion

For safety purposes, ABSOLUTELY NO JEWELRY PERMITTED (unless a part of the costume).

FACE FOUNDATION

Use to match skin tone.

EYELINER/MASCARA (black/brown)

Use at parent’s discretion. Mascara and eyeliner help best to open the eyes on stage. We suggest a TRAVEL SIZE mascara, the wand will be easier to use with small eyes.

A shade or two darker than everyday color

LIPSTICK

A berry color at parent's discretion
