Woodcreek High School is committed to the well-being of our student-athletes.
All student-athletes are tested using Impact Baseline Concussion Testing to measure their brain function in a normal, healthy state - before a concussion. If you suffer a head injury, doctors will use your baseline score to help you decide: What you need to do to get better. How to best treat you. When it is safe for you to return to your sport.
If an athlete is showing any signs of concussion/brain injury, the following steps will be followed:
Athletes who are suspected of having a concussion/brain injury will immediately be removed from practice or competition.
The athlete must take the CIF “Physician Letter to School” to a licensed health-care provider trained in the evaluation and management of concussion/brain injury.
If the athlete is diagnosed with a concussion, there is a minimum 7-day, sit out period.
Once the student is symptom free for 24 hours, and the 7-day (or longer) sit out period has passed, “Return to Play” guidelines will be implemented.
The athlete will be Impact re-tested within 72 hours of the initial impact, then again prior to the follow-up appointment with their Physician. The results of the test are to be shared with the Physician.
The athlete will need to be released by a doctor, before they will be allowed to return without restrictions. This requires a second visit to the Physician.
All Physician notes must be delivered to the school nurse, Zhanna Ivanyuk.
