POETRY & SEL
By Mrs. Arteaga's class Jackson Elementary
Students listened to the read aloud “The Important Book” by Margaret Wise Brown. We discussed the rhythm and patterns we saw in the book. We discussed what they thought made them important. They shared their ideas with their table groups. Then, they wrote their own poem following a similar pattern to the one in the book. They then used their iPads to scan a QR code that took them directly to my Flip topic. They recoded themselves reading their poems. For open house, I printed QR codes of their videos and had them up so parents could scan and watch.
GOODS & SERVICES
By Mrs. Rodriguez's class Jackson Elementary
Students learned about goods and services through our social studies unit and choice board. Their task was to express and share their learning with any app of their choice. Some used the app “Draw and Tell”. Others used the “Book Creator” or “Flip.” Students really enjoyed getting to choose the app they wanted.
It is important that they get a chance to use the iPads on a regular basis so they can practice with various tasks and content. This makes the tool easier to incorporate just like math manipulatives or a pencil and paper. The more they use the tools, the more comfortable they get with them and it becomes second nature.
THE IMPORTANT BOOK
By Mrs. Rodriguez's class Jackson Elementary
They then used their iPads to share their Important Poem using the app Chatter Pix. Students had a choice of what app to use. One sample is using Animate with Audio.
Using the iPad made it easy for my students to support each other. The apps from the iPad make it engaging for students to show their learning.
