Mr. Avella was raised in Riverside and he is a product of North High School and UCR School of Business.  He has been in education for 20 years and has a Master's in Education from California Baptist University.

Tad Barton has been teaching Business at John W. North High school for the past 29 years.  As creator of the Global Business Academy, Barton has worked with the business leaders of the Inland Empire, alumni, and several of the local Universities to develop cutting edge curriculum for for GBIT.

Ms. Foster | CTE Lead

Education & Child Development | EHSA

This is Ms. Foster's 11th year teaching at North HS (her own alma mater). She is the Coordinator for the Education Academy and she is also a part of the Social Studies department on campus, as well as, the advisor for a couple different student clubs. She has a BA in History, a MAT, and teaching credentials in Social Sciences and CTE.

Mr. Hiraoka

Mr. Hiraoka has been teaching at North High School, with the LAPS Academy, for seven years.  Prior to teaching, he served as a deputy sheriff with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department for over six years. Mr. Hiraoka has a BS in Biology, with a minor in Entomology, a Master’s in Public Administration, and credentials in Biological Sciences and CTE.

Modern Environmental Sustainability Solutions

Magali has 8 years of experience teaching Chemistry and Environmental Science. Prior to her teaching career she worked in various  laboratory settings conducting environmental testing and drought tolerance studies. She is a recent addition to the sustainability pathway at North High School.

Modern Environmental Sustainability Solutions

Lillian has over 15 years of experience teaching Biology and Chemistry courses in high school and community college.  She is passionate about the world around her and teaching students to make it a better place to live.  She has been working on establishing the urban environmental sustainability pathway at North for about five years.

Mrs. Parsons

Sports Medicine
& Injury Management

Deborah Parsons has worked in the field of sports medicine as a certified athletic trainer for over 25 years. She has worked in a variety of different settings including youth sports, high school sports, collegiate sports, physical therapy clinics, an orthopedic surgeon’s office, and providing services for durable medical equipment. She has been teaching for over 15 years and has taught both high school and college students. Ms. Parsons received her B.S. in Physical Education from Cal Poly, Pomona and her M.S. Ed in Health and Physical Education from Northwest Missouri State University.

Mrs. Tamayo is a Riverside native and North grad. As a member of the Community she strives to offer opportunities for every student to connect through service and career preparation so they can find their purpose. She has earned Bachelor's Degrees in Philosophy and Education, as well as Master's Degrees in Culturally Diverse Instruction and English Literature.
