In the event of a mandatory but temporary closure of the school, Riverside parents are asked to support their children’s distance learning plan by:
Establishing routines and expectations (see Expectations for Students).
Identify a physical space that is comfortable and free from distractions for your child’s study.
Monitor communications from your children’s teachers.
Ask to see your child’s Google Classroom.
See that they are “attending” their video conference lessons.
Begin each day with a check-in. Discuss with your child:
What they are learning. How will they manage their time? Is there anything they need?
End each day with a check-in. Discuss with your child:
Did they accomplish their goals for the day? What went well? What obstacles did they encounter? Do they need any additional support?
Encourage physical activity and/or exercise.
Be mindful of your child’s emotional health and support them if they are feeling anxious or overwhelmed.
Monitor how much time your child is spending online - completing tasks set by their teachers and engaging in social media.
