Blog Term WhĀ (4)

Nau mai hoki mai! Welcome back to Term 4. We hope you have all had a wonderful break and are feeling refreshed for the last part of the year.

Wiki Iwa (Week 9)

The FINAL week! What a week it has been. We have been doing lots of Christmas crafts and tidying our spaces. Wednesday was Right Choice Day - the best day EVER! It was so much fun going down the waterslides, bouncing in the bouncy castles, and eating icecream! A well deserved day for Riverdale kids.

Wiki Waru (Week 8)

The pool is OPEN! Thank you to everyone who donated and helped with the Walkathon to get our pool heated. The kids have loved being able to swim!

We have finished off our Art Inquiry, and have created beautiful pieces of art that portrays a story they have written. They used more than one medium and lots of different techniques!

On Friday the weather held out for the Rippa Finals and our Summer Finale. It was so cool to see the community support during the performances.

Wiki Whitu (Week 7)

What a full on week! Pack the Bus came, we managed to fit in a round of Rippa on Tuesday, and had the Disco on Thursday! Lots of fun! We have also had a busy week planning our Art pieces for the Act of our Visual Arts Inquiry.

Esplanade Trip! (Week 6)

What an awesome start to the week having our Esplanade Trip! We got to do some drawing in the Rose Gardens, look at the Duck Pond and Greenhouse, complete a Scavenger Hunt, have a paddle in the pool and look at the birds. After this we were able to go and have lunch at the playground . We were treated with a surprise ... an iceblock! A huge thank you to Margaret and Vjay from 4 Square for supplying these.

Another big thank you to the parents/caregivers that came to help us. Was such an incredible opportunity for our tamariki.

Wiki Rima! (Week Five)

We have had another fantastic week of learning in Piako Rua!

On Tuesday we had some Pounamu Atawhai and Poutama friends join us for reading! They also took us for some games outside.

We have been talking lots about space and the Rocket that went up to the moon so some of this weeks opt ins were space themed. Mrs P and Mrs Hobbs' whānau groups created some rocket ships of their own.

Check out some photos of what we have been up to this week!

Wiki Whā! (Week Four)

A busy week here in Piako Rua, with Athletics Day on Wednesday! What an awesome day it was. We are so proud of the effort Piako Rua put in and for giving everything a go! Ka mau te wehi!

We have also had a great week of learning. Some senior students have been creating escape rooms and scavenger hunts and choosing some lucky students to go and try them out!

Mrs P's opt in kids created some cool Name Monster Symmetry Art!

Check out some snaps from the week 😁

Wiki Toru! (Week Three)

Our Art Inquiry is underway! We have been exploring our first rotation of a medium/technique, these are painting, collage, sculpture and pastels. Next week is Athletics so we have been getting out to train (when the weather allows us ☹️).

Check out some snaps from the week 😁

Some of us completed 'The Great Paper Chain Challenge', where we had to work with a partner to problem solve and find a way to create the longest paper chain in a limited amount of time. There was some great Mathmatical thinking and teamwork at play during this challenge!

Wiki Rua! (Week Two)

What a lovely short week 🥰 Have a scroll to see some snaps from wiki rua.

We have started training for Athletics, which has been a huge highlight of the week!

On Thursday we participated in the Shake Out earthquake drill, Piako Rua was AMAZING at doing 'drop, cover, hold'.

Symmetry is one of our maths focuses at the moment, have a peek at some of the object symmetry art pieces!

Diwali was celebrated this week, so we have been learning more about it. The rangoli patterns made out of coloured sand were a favourite, as well as the beautiful light and fireworks displays.

For Opt In's on Friday we created different Diwali crafts.

Wiki Tahi! (Week One)

Wow this year is just flying by, how are we already in term 4?! We have settled straight back into our routines and are ready for a jam-packed term full of learning, fun and summer sun! (fingers crossed)

This week has been a busy one, with the Walkathon and Rippa Rugby that started on Friday! It was a freezing cold day, but we are glad that the sun made an appearance in the afternoon.

We also started our Visual Arts Inquiry - which has been awesome so far! For our first session we listened to music and explored how we could express how it made us feel/what it sounded like by drawing on paper. Then on Wednesday we looked at how art tells stories and looked at some famous pieces of art to see how it made us feel and what the story behind them might be.

Check out some snaps from the week 😁
