Blog Term TORU (3)

Wiki Tekau (Week 10)

Spring has sprung! We are loving the warmer days. 🌞

Kiwi Tales

We loved performing and showing off our hard work for our family and friends at the Regent on Broadway! It has been a very busy 5 weeks, but absolutely worth it. Mrs Hobbs' & Mrs Pedersen's Whānau groups worked on The Pavlova Man, and Mrs Te Huki & Mr Pike's Whānau groups worked on Little Red Riding Kereru.

Your kaiako (teachers) are so proud of you Piako Rua. It was the most incredible night.

Wiki Iwa (Week 9)

Ka rawe! What an excellent week we have had. To kick start our Monday, we had the wonderful Chris Lam Sam come to entertain and inform us about Asthma.

Mrs Kenyon brought Herman the turtle in to see us, which was so much fun! He even inspired some creative writing - as we wondered what kind of adventures Herman might get up to if he escaped his tank.

We have had an intensive week of production practise and preparation and are super excited to show off our acting, dancing, props, and costumes in a couple of days.

Wiki Waru (Week 8)

Kia ora koutou! This week was Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori. We have celebrated Te Reo Māori, listening to lots of waiata and using basic greetings/commands (we do this everyday anyway!) We even looked at how we could incorporate Te Reo in our daily timetable.

Wiki Waru has been busy, with school photos, production practises and on Friday we had an assembly where our school was awarded a Bronze Enviroschool Award - An outstanding achievement!

Wiki Whitu (Week 7)

Mālō e lelei! What a cool week we have had. It was Tongan language week, and Kora shared some basic greetings with us! How lucky are we to have a tohunga like Kora.

On Tuesday we had a session with Manawatu Cricket. It was lots of fun! We practised throwing balls at a target, batting and running around wickets, and fielding. They even run a free programme which is an amazing opportunity.

On Wednesday the wonderful Pieta brought her pyrography machine and Mrs Hobbs & Mrs Pedersen's whānau were able to create a design on a wooden block. How cool!

On a Thursday, students that do not participate in Te Puawai go to Pae Ake to do some learning around Te Ao Māori. A focus has been around Hua Rākau, healthy fruit and learning the names in Te Reo.

Week 6

We have been busy this week starting production practice. We are in the midst of assigning roles, thinking about costumes, and singing and dancing.

We had some bigger students come and read with us this week. The students love hearing other storytellers read to them.

We are looking forward to Literacy Week next week We will have lots of reading in the library and at a Teddy Bear's picnic. We will also have special visitors from Girl's High School reading stories for us.

Check out some snaps from the week 😁

Week 5

Half way through Term 3 already... and wow! What an exciting week we have had.

We attended Pae Ake's Market Day on Wednesday, which was loads of fun! Thank you for allowing your children to spend at the market, all proceeds are off to Central Energy Trust Wildbase Recovery in the Esplanade.

Friday was Daffodil Day! We talked a lot about the meaning behind the day, and were very proud of the donations we received. During Opt In's we offered Daffodil crafts, which were a huge hit!

During the week some wonderful senior students from the Comms team came in and read us stories or helped us with our learning. We loved having them in Piako Rua!

Check out some snaps from the week 😁

Weeks 2-4 !

Over the last few weeks we have been busy doing some amazing learning. Teamwork was a big focus, where we completed tasks and activities to help us learn how to work well in a team.

We have explored how animals adapt to overcome problems within their environments, and how we can also adapt to solve problems in ours. These animal adaptations have inspired our Te Ako Ritenga (Inquiry), where we have all chosen a problem to solve, and followed the design process to create a prototype.

Art Opt In's are a favourite - we did some scribble art and pencil penguins! Check out how cute they are.

Welcome to Term 3!

It has been a great start to the term, welcoming our new friends as well as Mrs Te Huki to Piako Rua!

Over the past couple of weeks we have been very busy, getting straight back into our learning while getting used to the changes in our spaces. We have been learning about animals adaptations in preparation for our technology inquiry as well as getting back into our favourite sessions such as opt ins!

Check out some of our awesome work below!
