Mrs Whitta's First Week
Aue! What an amazing first week I have had in Pae Ake. Thank you to all of the wonderful people who made me feel welcome into our team. Ngā mihi koutou!
On Friday we had an amazing day celebrating all of the cultures here at Riverdale School (and more!)
William performed at the Cultural Day Assembly, and his wonderful Mum, Holly read us The Gruffalo while we ate our healthy kai.
We had some special visitors during the day that did some presentations for us to help learn more about other cultures!
Our whole class photo was taken during a rollercoaster of emotions - hence some of the sad faces. The amount of tears we had just shows the incredible impact Mr Pike has left on Riverdale and how much he will be missed 🥰
We had a lovely morning working to He Ara Kotahi for our Inquiry learning. At school we have been learning about the history of He Ara Kotahi. It is a new bridge but there is historical significance as to why it was built where it is, and why it looks like it does! Ask your tamariki if they can share some facts/stories about the bridge, otherwise we will be sharing our learning (through a short video) at the Matariki night on Thursday the 27th of June.
Ms Bradshaw made some yummy cake for us to celebrate He Ara Kotahi's birthday! We sang Rā Whānau for 5 years since it was opened!
Check out the beautiful flowers some of us created for Friday Opt In's! We had lots of messy fun with the chalk pastels 😀
Mr Pike did some 'Winking Eyes' made with origami and pastel!
Mrs Mabey's group made 'Pae Ake Sculptures' inspired by the sculptures around Palmerston North. They are super cool!
On Thursday Remy's Mum, Nicola brought their FOUR kittens to visit! Blossom, Violet, Oreo McFlurry and Checkers 🥰 They were SO cute. Everybody had a hold and a pat.
We had such a wonderful day on Friday completing our Walk-a-thon! It was lovely seeing all the smiling faces go past and we loved having some parents join us too. Well done for the amazing effort Pae Ake.
Evie and Cillian put their hands up to share their pepeha with the class. They used clear voices and showed confidence and bravery. Ka mau te wehi!
This week we have been working hard on our Pepeha Art - visually representing our personal pepeha to show who we are and where we come from. How gorgeous are the pictures and bright colours?! Ka mau te wehi! Mrs B has been taking some 'bush babies' out to the outdoor learning space at lunch time 🥰 they have been exploring and learning some Te Reo Māori words and phrases for things in the garden/bush. They look like they've been having the best time!
Cross country training is in full swing! We are trying to beat our score each day, the blocks represent each lap that has been run. On Wednesday's we have a fun fitness game instead of running around the track and on Friday's we have our usual dance exercise!
What a wonderful start to Term 2! The weather has been so lovely. We have been straight back into our learning and cross country training. Friday was lots of fun! Mrs Mabey did an opt in with designs that appear when you put into the water, like a magic trick! Mrs Pedersen did some Mandala mindfulness art. Ms Bradshaw did some Maths reflection activities with us, we had a great time exploring using mirrors!
