Week 3 (September 15 - 19): In week 3, students will be putting together all of the activities from Weeks 1-2 and developing a thorough understanding of the reasoning behind the full water cycle, adding in the last steps: condensation, precipitation, rand unoff/percolation. Students will follow up with their labs from last week- checking transpiration measures, setting up/monitoring their solar stills, and re-designing their stills to increase evaporation and condensation measures.
Science 6 is a Sixth Grade NGSS-based course, splitting the year into three focal areas of science: earth science, physical science, and life science. During the earth science exploration, students will explore the ways in which the earth recycles, studying the water cycle and taking a side track to learn about watersheds, rivers, and salmon. Sixth graders will raise and release salmon in the late fall. In the winter, sixth graders will learn about heat and energy transfer, and the spring will bring a deep exploration into ecosystems and species diversity in preparation for the 6th Grade Field Studies, Outdoor School.
Grading information can be found on the "5/6 Science Program Overview" page. Please review to understand how students will be evaluated this year.
