Week at a Glance
Week 11 ( May 20 -21): In Week 11 we wrapped up all of our 5th grade content for the school year. In the remaining days ahead of us, we will complete some final assessments, such as the spring iReady Diagnostic. Then, we'll explore probability and basic statistics, using hands on activities to develop an understanding of chance. This work will culminate in the design of a "fair" game that students will play on the last day of school.

Math 5 Overview
Fifth Grade students focus on operations with whole numbers using the standard algorithms for each operation, describing the relationship between each operation, but also develop the ability to explain why various problems make sense, using place value understanding. Students at this level begin working with powers of ten and other number patterns, and continue to work with estimation and rounding. Fifth Grade students perform all four operations with both fractions and whole numbers and continue to explore the relationship between fractions and decimals. Students at this level continue to write and interpret numerical expressions and patterns, use a coordinate plane, convert among units of measure, and work with volume.
