Students will be responsible for completing a Math assignment and their Reading log Monday-Friday.
For Math, students will be bringing home a page to reinforce the skills and strategies that we have been working on in class. Periodically, they may have two pages: a daily practice page and a home connection page. I will keep an eye on the volume of the homework and make a decision as to the appropriate amount, without it becoming overwhelming.
For Reading, students are to take home a reading log each night and read for at least 20 minutes. They are to put the date of the reading, the title of the book(s) that they read, and then answer a question pertaining to what they read. The questions they can respond to are kept in their homework/Friday folder.
Student homework is graded primarily on the basis of it being completed and on time. Homework is great for reinforcing skills learned at school, but also for teaching responsibility, study skills, and organization. Students earn 5 points each day for both math and reading. If they forgot it, didn't get it signed, or any other reason that could be avoided and turn it in the following day, they will earn 3 points for being one day late. No points are awarded if more than one day late. If a student is absent, they get one day for each day they were gone to make up the work. Accommodations will be made for unavoidable lateness on a case by case basis.
Math is due the next day
Reading logs are due on .
Also, students will need to prepare:
Twice every trimester for a speech
Once per trimester for a book project
