Packing List
Daypack
Notes: Please wear hiking shoes, and bring a daypack that includes:
Sack lunch with drink (pack an extra snack for Day 1)
Water bottle - full
TWO layers to stay warm in the cave (Cave is consistently 45 degree air w/light breeze, can be drippy… rain jacket is likely needed.)
Hat (baseball cap style), gloves optional
Sunglasses & sunscreen
Camera – (disposable or older digital camera works best)
Binoculars (optional, if you have a pair)
Non-electronic personal entertainment (i.e. mad libs, book(s) to read, cards, travel games, etc.) or pre-smartphone electronic entertainment or music players (ex. walkman, discman, early ipod...a good rule is, if someone used the device prior to the year 2002, it's probably ok)*
$10-$20 for a souvenir at the gift shop.
Flashlights (camping headlamps are nice to free up your hands. . .plus one more to hold. )
Two sets of batteries not in flashlight
Overnight Bag
Notes: overnight bags will be loaded on the bus and inaccessible the first day until arrival at the resort on the evening of Day 1. Please keep daypack equipment separate, in the daypack; students will have those with them throughout the day. Additionally, everything in the overnight bag, including the bag itself, should have a name label.
Complete change of clothes for 2 days, including long pants for hiking (though this is a 2-day trip, the extra set of clothes are helpful to include in case one gets wet)
One pair of comfortable shoes for around the insides of the buildings (flip flops or slippers are okay as long as they can go outside - i.e. slippers could get wet and muddy.)
A lovie for sleepytime.
Toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, washcloth, deodorant, & towel (there are showers)
Sleeping bag & pillow packed in a labeled stuff bag (“Hefty” sack works very well. Travel hint: include a second one for the return trip, (also labeled) in with the sleeping bag.)
Sleeping Pad with name label (Optional… students in the past reported being more comfortable sleeping on a camp mattress.)
Notes about Medication
All medication, inlcuding over-the-counter medication must be in the original container and given to the support teacher prior to our departure. Parents will need to sign a separate medication form, click here to print and sign the form. The medication authorization form should be included in a ziploc bag the the student name, and the medication.
*Sorry – student cell phones and tablets are not allowed on the trip. Students will always be with a parent chaperon or teacher for any necessary/emergency phone calls home.
