Graduated from Kansai University Faculty of Law
Completed Master's program at Ritsumeikan University Graduate School of International Relations
Studied abroad at George Washington University (Washington DC) and Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok)

It was during my time as a graduate student that I had a life-changing encounter with a Fair Trade in the deep mountains of Thailand, where a group of women were actively and enthusiastically participating in the handicraft production. Since then, I have decided to make Fair Trade my life's work, and here I am today.

Since 1999, I have managed the Fair Trade brand, "Sisam". We have ongoing business relationships with 12 Fair Trade producer groups in 5 Asian countries, including India and the Philippines.

In addition to being in charge of all areas of communication with overseas fair trade partners, I am also active as a fair trade storyteller, dealing with international certifications such as World Fair Trade Organization membership, developing new businesses, and giving lectures inside and outside the company.

Since 2023, I have worked as a certifying committee member of the Japan Fair Trade Forum, certifying and renewing Fair Trade Towns and Fair Trade Universities in Japan.

I live in Kyoto, a mother of one boy and one girl, and I love watching sports such as rugby and basketball

Regeneration Through Fair Trade: Building a Sustainable and Equitable Society

For the past 25 years, I have been actively involved in promoting Fair Trade. Throughout this journey, I have witnessed producers in developing countries overcome odds such as poverty and discrimination through fair trade, empowering them to lead dignified and sustainable lives, both economically and socially.

In this talk, I will focus on the fashion industry and suggest how we can build a better world through the lens of fair trade. The rise of fast fashion has brought with it significant challenges, including human rights abuses in manufacturing facilities and the growing problem of textile waste.

Have you ever bought fast fashion? It's important to understand the social issues, such as child labor, that are often hidden behind trendy clothing. Even a single product today is part of a complex global supply chain. Together, we will explore the impact of our purchasing decisions and how they can shape a regenerative world.

On one hand, I want to emphasize that the way you spend your money and shop can help create a new society. Let's consider how we can ensure that 1,000 years from now, people still prioritize kindness to each other and coexist harmoniously with the environment, promoting both spiritual and material well-being.

Through the lens of Fair Trade, let's think together about actions we can take starting tomorrow.
