Logo and
Graphic Devices
The RITM logo is the primary symbol of the Institute. It symbolizes the Institute’s identity as a lead center for excellence in research and in providing quality health care services.
Logo Meaning
The main elements of the logo are the microscope and the test tube. They represent the Institute’s expertise in the fields of infectious disease research, surveillance, clinical care, and biologicals productions.
The placing of these two main elements in an oval represent the unification of these four different fields of expertise into one Institution—the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.
Logo Versions
Three (3) versions of the RITM logo may be used for communication materials:
Full Color
Standard version to be used Outline across all internal and external communication materials. This version shall always be used to accompany the DOH Full Color Seal.
Single Color Outline (Black)
To be used only if warranted, especially against light, solid colored backgrounds. Do not use this version to accompany the DOH Full Color Seal.
Single Color Outline (White)
To be used only if warranted, especially against dark, solid colored backgrounds. Do not use this version to accompany the DOH Full Color Seal.
Correct Logo Usage: Basics
The RITM logo must appear in all Institutional communication materials. It is imperative to always use the logo in quality standard, ensuring its fidelity. For high quality print materials, use a 300 pixel per inch (ppi) version of the logo. While for digital collaterals, a 72 ppi version will suffice.
To accurately capture the details of the RITM logo, do not reproduce the logo less than 1.5 cm in height. When scaling, ensure to maintain the height by width ratio of the logo.
Also ensure to maintain a “safe space” surrounding the logo to always keep the logo visible and legible. The safe space specified is the minimum “breathing room” that is maintained around the logo. Do not position any text, graphic, or other visual elements inside the recommended safe space. The safe space is the measurement “x” which represents the distance between the external and internal green edges of the logo.
Correct Logo Usage:
RITM Logo with DOH Logo
The DOH Logo need not be used when producing materials for internal stakeholders. But for communication materials intended for external stakeholders, always use the RITM logo with the DOH Seal. Only the full color versions of the logos shall be used when intended to be used together for external collaterals. Moreover, the RITM logo shall always appear on the right side of the DOH Seal to represent DOH as the Institute’s parent agency.
When scaling the DOH Seal, ensure that its diameter is always equal to the vertical length of the inner oval of the RITM logo.
Correct Logo Usage:
Co-Branding
For use of logos of departments or units under RITM, the logos should always appear to the right of the RITM logo. Oval logos could follow the vertical heights of the RITM logo. All other logo shapes should be scaled such that their diameter is equal to the vertical length of the inner oval in the RITM logo.
The use of the RITM logo along with logos and brand identity of institutions outside RITM should always have prior written request and approval from the Office of the RITM Director. The placement of the RITM logos in these materials should always be agreed upon by the collaborating institutions.
Incorrect Logo Treatments
As the prime visual device representing the Institute, it is crucial to always use the logo with caution. The RITM logo should not be changed or modified in any way. The design, proportions, graphic elements, and typefaces of the logo are fixed elements.
To preserve its fidelity, watch out for the following unacceptable logo treatments:
Do not distort the logo.
Do not separate or rearrange the elements of the logo.
Do not change the color of the logo.
Do not place the logo at an angle.
Do not place the logo on a background which has the same color as the edges of the logo. The green edges of the logo must be clearly distinguished from the background.
Do not place the logo against a distracting background.
Do not modify the typeface of the logo.
Do not emboss or add texture to the logo.
Do not add shadow.
Do not attach or overlap additional elements to the logo.
Do not combine the logo with other graphic elements.
Do not lower the opacity.
Do not use thick strokes or outlines.
Do not use the logo in a sentence.
Do not use any of the old, unofficial versions of the logo.
Wordmarks
Two (2) versions of wordmarks may also be used for communication materials.
The DOH and RITM Wordmark shall be used for external communication materials except for social media collaterals and business cards. The use of this wordmark for internal collaterals is optional.
Any alterations to the elements of the wordmark is strictly prohibited.
The white text version of this wordmark should only be used against dark solid colored backgrounds, especially green-blue gradients.
Graphic Devices
Aside from the RITM logo, the RITM brand can also be conveyed through other visual representations. Graphic devices are one way of augmenting our logo by providing a refreshing, unique way to symbolize our brand.
These can serve as effective tools to quickly represent RITM without text or without the name of RITM being indicated. With graphic devices in place, we seek to represent an easily distinguishable brand that may not rely heavily on text or other visual elements to be remembered or understood.
Graphic Device: United Microscope and Test Tube
Extracted from the primary logo, the united microscope and test tube can serve as a stand-alone graphic device. Relating back to our brand positioning statement and RITM logo meaning, the microscope and the test tube are visual elements that are universally used to represent our core – research.
The united microscope and test tube graphic device may be used as a watermark, image overlay pattern, or a favicon for web pages. But this should not be used in replacement of the RITM logo in brand collaterals, but rather as a creative visual tool to represent the RITM brand, and to improve quality of designs.
Two (2) versions (black and white) of the united microscope and test tube may be used in brand collaterals. Aside from black and white, this graphic device should only be recolored according to RITM brand colors.

Graphic Device: Illustrated RITM Main Facade
Aside from the united microscope and test tube, another stand-alone RITM graphic device is the the Institute’s main facade. More than a common place where the Institute’s stakeholders convene, the RITM main facade symbolizes the Institute’s strength and resilience spanning decades of public health efforts rooted in infectious disease research.
This graphic device is primarily dedicated for merchandise collaterals (further illustrated in the Templates chapter). But this should not be used in replacement of the real manipulated photos of the RITM facade appearing frequently across RITM brand collaterals.
Three (3) versions of the illustrated RITM main facade may be used: original colors, RITM brand colors, and outline. Any alterations to the versions of this graphic device is strictly prohibited, unless cleared by CEO.
