Meet the Staff
Weston Lombard is the co-founder of RAW and the owner of Solid Ground Farm. Inspired by his work as a camp counselor in a woodland sanctuary as a teenager, Weston has devoted himself to his interests in sustainable agriculture, community economic development, outdoor adventure and education. A graduate of OU's College of Business, he Directed Ohio Brew Week for several years, has worked as an organizer for the Ohio Pawpaw Festival for the last decade and currently teaches Sustainable Resource Management at Hocking College and manages an experimental agroforestry site. He is a husband, father of two, and an amateur ninja.
RAW Camp Director
Kent Orr is the Director of RAW Camp. After moving to Ohio in 2012, Kent earned his Associates degree at Hocking in Ecotourism and Adventure Travel, and is currently a senior at Ohio University majoring in Recreation Management. Since 2009 he has worked with children in non-profit and private camps in Texas, California, and Ohio. On weekends you can either find him guiding climbing and rappelling tours or floating down the Hocking River on a giant inflatable flamingo affectionately named the Water Donkey. As a native Texan he craves the heat and will devour a plate of enchiladas before you've moved on from the chips and salsa.
Director of Development
Chloe is the Director of Development for Rising Appalachia. She recently earned her Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science and Sociology-Criminology from Ohio University. She is pursuing her Master’s of Public Administration at Ohio University in the fall. Additionally, Chloe has extensive experience working with high school students, parents, community members, and program alumni through OHIO Upward Bound, a college access program that serves low income and first-generation college students. She has a passion for education, which makes her particularly excited to join the RAW team. Outside of RAW, Chloe enjoys catering to her cat’s every need, exploring the ancestry and existence of Bigfoot, and protecting her enamel.
Environmental Education Specialist
Lawrence R Greene was one of the co founders of R.A.W. and has been here since the beginning. He also has a fiscal sponsorship with Factory Street Studio in Athens and teaches at their dance camp and weekly during the school year. He previously worked 3 seasons of camp at Woodland Altars: school of discovery. After spending time as lead naturalist at The Wilds and Highlands Nature Sanctuary he moved to Athens . Lawrence is also the founder of Ugata: Drum and Dance a Pan African education group. Natural resource and music programs are the focus of many of the classes Lawrence shares at R.A.W.
Communications and Marketing Manager
Meredith S. Jensen is the communication/marketing manager for Rising Appalachia and the "Science Lecture Girl/Yes, You Have to Learn Something This Summer Girl" for RAW Camp. She is a full-time creative, part-time faerie, freelance writer, and jack-of-all-trades. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, birding, hiking, arguing with her umbrella cockatoo, and serving as a volunteer naturalist for the State of Ohio. She's the super short counselor with the fishing hat, tattoos, and weird hair.
Jamie Betit has worked multiple seasons with RAW Camps specializing in teaching movement and exercise. When not at RAW Jamie runs his own business as a personal trainer. You can often find Jamie at camp teaching kids to play, exercise, and make positive lifestyle choices. In his spare time he enjoys the company of his two daughters and is an active member in the Athens community.
This is Angie Schirtzinger's first year as a RAW Camp Leader. She is currently a student at Ohio University studying Recreation Management and Ecotourism. Previously, she spent three years at Otterbein University studying Studio Art/Gallery Curation and Sustainability. While at Otterbein, She was an Orientation Leader as well as a Community Service Leader for the environmental campus group: "Plan-It-Earth" as well as was a weekly mentor for middle school girls for anti-bullying and positive self-esteem. She a lover of sunshine and the outdoors who enjoys hiking, backpacking, kayaking, biking, dancing, sculpting with clay, and encouraging "SOUL-SHINE" -- shining in our individuality for all!
Annalise Bianco is a Junior at Ohio University doing an independent study in Business Sustainability. She is from Western Pennsylvania and in her free time enjoys hiking, skiing, rock climbing, running, and painting. She has previous camp experience and has also worked at Vail Resorts in Colorado facilitating the kid's ropes course, zip line, and rock wall. In her spare time Annalise enjoys tending to her succulent plants and searching for ghosts in her new apartment.
Sage is finishing up her undergrad in English at Ohio University and spending her free time this summer playing and assisting at RAW. She has a love for literature, herbalism, and scavenger hunts.
