The class will be split into two (or possibly three) ensembles. Spend some time discussing strategies for how to provide space for all the members of your ensemble and devise a strategy (consider sound / silence, frequency ranges utilized by each person, and physical location within the room as possible tactics) by which you will realize a durational (45 – 60 minute) performance that uses the Old Library as a collective instrument.
You should utilize the central iMac as the “host” computer for a collectively-designed spatialization patch that is open to control by all members of your group; each member will send one channel of audio each into the AVB interface. Note that don’t have to be moving everything around all the time, the world rarely works like this. Instead, think about the placement and diffusion of sounds in the room in relationship to the readings, listening exercises, and discussions we have had in class.
