Wednesday 8th March 2023 - Snow Closure: Where possible and relevant, teachers have uploaded work for their classes today via Google Classroom/Teams and ClassCharts. There is more information below.
If a pupil needs to work from home for whatever reason, and is well enough to access online learning, they can do so by using their school hwb accounts @hwbcymru.net (Years 7-11). Principal and lead teachers of subjects have uploaded work on to the relevant google classrooms/teams for pupils to access from home. The activities may or may not relate to what they have been learning in class. There is also a wealth of online learning activities on BBC Bitesize and through the resources section on Hwb, both of which will support your child's learning at home. Please see the 'How to log in at home' and 'useful links' section below.

March 2023
With home learning continuing until February half term we have reviewed our current provision for Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) and made some changes to increase capacity for staff and improve learning experiences for our pupils. It remains our aim that your child will feel 'connected, motivated and interested' as their learning continues online, but we are keen to resume face to face teaching with everyone as soon as we can. Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11) remains unchanged and these students should continue to follow their timetable as before.
From Monday the 18th January, pupils in years 7, 8 and 9 will follow the timetable as set out below, and all students can expect a varied and interesting provision, including live lessons in a number of areas. Please note we have a two week timetable schedule at RCCS, and Monday 18th is the start of a Week 2. Teachers delivering the lessons may also differ from the ones specified on the timetables.
Please check the updated codes in the "useful links" section below and ensure your child has ‘joined’ the correct class. There are ‘how to’ videos for anyone who needs a reminder. ClassCharts will also be updated with the new timetables - if you haven’t downloaded the app I would urge you to do so - guidance below. If you have any device issues please get in touch. All KS3 pupils were given a ‘blended learning’ exercise book before the Christmas break for them to complete any written work in - please contact the school if you need another one.

REMEMBER THERE IS NO CHANGE IN KEY STAGE FOUR.
Where will I be learning ?
You will be learning from home as part of our blended learning approach and following the published timetable on here if you are in KS3, KS4 will continue to follow your normal timetable. You can access this through the ClassCharts app. You can also access your work directly on Google Classroom. Please click on the link below if you need help on how to do this or if you need your google classroom codes (these are also displayed below). Lessons will be set and delivered through Google Classroom and Teams.
What do you mean by a blended learning approach?
Blended learning is an approach to learning that combines using web based educational resources and opportunities for interactions online, with traditional in school classroom methods. When you cannot be in school doing 'traditional' face to face learning you need to be learning from home. Both are important but they should not be seen as totally separate and the work you do at home and at school should be linked- hence the term 'blended.'
What will I be learning?
There will be many opportunities to develop your literacy, numeracy and ICT skills as well as covering subject specific content. These core elements will be delivered through all of your timetabled lessons. This will still be the same whether you are learning at home or at school.
Will my teachers change?
For KS4 your teachers will remain the same - you will still have your subject teachers as stated on your timetable. For KS3 there will be some changes to who delivers your lessons - make sure you join the correct classroom as shown below.
Do I have to follow my timetable if I am learning from home?
Yes. Where possible this should be followed throughout the day. Some of your lessons may be live, pre-recorded or there may be PowerPoints to follow - teachers will be available during your lessons so please let them know if there are any issues. We understand that you may have to access your learning at other times too so any 'live' lessons will be recorded and can be watched afterwards.
Will my work be marked?
Yes, some marking will take place. Teachers will provide feedback and pupils will still be rewarded through achievement points via our ClassCharts system.
Will I be able to communicate with my teachers and ask for help if I am learning from home?
Yes - your teachers will be available during your timetabled lessons; you can use the 'stream' on Google Classroom and email to communicate with your teachers. During ‘live’ lessons teachers may ask you to use your microphone if you want to.
What will happen if I don't complete work?
Your teachers will be monitoring engagement and effort over the next few weeks. We expect you to complete the work as set by your teachers. If you are ill or are having any issues please let us know - we will help.

Your child has been identified as a close contact of a C19 confirmed positive case. As a result they have been asked to self-isolate until Thursday 3rd December. Please be aware that this does not affect their whole class and therefore your child will follow our 'skills' blended learning approach rather than their normal timetable. Please see the FAQs below:
I have been asked to self - isolate where will I be learning?
You will be learning from home, moving to our 'skills' blended learning approach. If you are in Y8, the google class code for this is Izsbukn. Please join this classroom if you haven't already done so. If your require paper resources please contact us. If you are in another year group, please see the skills code below.
What will I be learning?
You will be focusing on developing your literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. You will work through a package developed by Mrs Bawler, Mr Harris and Mrs Lewis during this time.
Will my teachers change?
Your classroom teachers will still be teaching your class in school so therefore you will be expected to work through the skills work at your own pace.
Do I have to follow my normal timetable if I am learning from home?
No. The skills package has been designed for you to access work when you can. Please try to do as much as you can and remember reading is an excellent learning activity too.
Will I be able to communicate with my teachers and ask for help if I am learning from home?
Yes - you can email to communicate with your teachers or use the stream on the Skills Google Classroom.
What will happen if I don't complete work?
We will be monitoring engagement and effort over the weeks you are isolating and may contact home if inadequate work is completed. We expect you to complete the work to the best of your ability from the 'skills' google classroom. If you are ill or are having any issues please let us know - we will help.
We look forward to welcoming your child back back on Thursday 3rd December.

October 2020: Firebreak update
I hope you are all safe and well.
I'd like to update you on the expectations and procedures in place at RCCS to support you and your child's learning during the 'fire-break lockdown' as we continue to work through the pandemic.
Firstly we want to reassure our parents and our pupils that we will continue to prioritise 'wellbeing' as we work through this period together. We will be delivering a full, broad and balanced curriculum with a focus on the four purposes as set out in the New Curriculum for Wales for both the Face to Face teaching with years 7 and 8 and also remotely with a Home Learning approach for years 9, 10 and 11. Our aim is that our pupils feel connected, motivated and interested during this unique autumn term.
Years 7 and 8 will continue to be taught in 'bubbles' and will access their timetable as normal. Years 9, 10 and 11 will access their normal timetable via the Class Charts app from home, where a variety of learning experiences will be available for them. This will take place for one week beginning the 2nd November. During this time we will continue to develop the vital skills of literacy, numeracy and ICT to enable all our pupils to make the next progression steps in their learning. An update on exams is expected in the week commencing the 9th of November; Mr Coombes will make any announcements as soon as they become available.
I'm in year 7 or 8 where will I be learning?
You will attend school just as you have been and you will continue to be taught in your 'homerooms'. You will be following your timetable and will be taught by all of your subject teachers.
I'm in year 9, 10 or 11 where will I be learning?
You will be learning from home, moving to our home learning approach (2nd-6th Nov) and following your normal timetable, you can access this through the ClassCharts app. Please click on the link below if you need help on how to do this. Lessons will be set and delivered through Google Classroom and Teams. You may be given workbooks and revision guides to work through too. Please follow your teachers' instructions.

There will be many opportunities to develop your literacy, numeracy and ICT skills as well as covering subject specific content. I would like to say a big thank you for your support of the school over what continues to be a very challenging time. It has been a pleasure to have the pupils back in school, we have extensive plans in place for years 9,10 and 11 to continue to learn from home during the 'short fire-break' period. Once again we look forward to having the whole school community back together on Monday 9th November.
Take care,
