Meet Golf Coach Charles Purinton
Coach Purinton is a dedicated golf coach with a longstanding passion for the sport. A native of Lake Arrowhead, he graduated from Rim High in 2005 and pursued further education at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), where he majored in Criminal Justice (CJUS) and graduated in 2009.
During his time at Rim High, he was actively involved in sports, participating in Cross Country, Track, Ski Team, and Golf teams for all four years. Additionally, he played on the Golf team at Riverside Community College for two years. His enthusiasm for golf began in the sixth grade, leading him to be an integral part of the Rim of the World High School golf team throughout his high school years.
Coach has extensive experience teaching youth at the Van Buren Golf Center alongside staff, volunteers, and PGA Professionals. He is proud of his contributions to their Junior Golf Program. His coaching career continued at Rim of the World High School, where he emphasizes all aspects of golf, including the fundamentals of full swings, putting, and chipping. He also instructs students on the rules, etiquette of the game, and valuable life lessons.
His coaching philosophy includes exposing young golfers to positive sportsmanship, social skills, and mental discipline essential to enjoying the game of golf for a lifetime. With new golf shoes, bags, uniforms, and gloves, the Rim of the World High School golf team is prepared to start the season with enthusiasm. Last year, the team ranked second in the league within the San Andreas division, and they are aiming for first place this season, having practiced three days a week over the past year.
Apart from his golfing achievements, Coach Purinton is an Eagle Scout with Troop 251, a CHP Explorer Captain/Advisor, and an active church member, running the nursery. He has completed AP courses in 3D Graphic Design and 2D Studio Art at RHS and holds degrees in Criminal Justice with Administrative Justice and Paralegal Studies.
He also has a four-year-old daughter, contributing to a balance between his professional and personal life.
