Mateo is the first baseball player in over 40 years to get close to 100 career hits, he finished with 99! He has been nominated the past two years for league MVP, an amazing accomplishment because our Scots baseball team has finished in fourth and third place in those seasons. His career batting average was .404 with 50 stolen bases. In football, he had numerous interceptions and kickoff returns for touchdowns. He was a unanimous vote for All League and All CIF the past year, respected by opposing coaches in the Arrowhead Athletic Conference as well as our divisional opponents. In basketball, he came off the football field and straight to the court in his junior year to take a starting position as a three guard, playing lock-down defense, known best as a reliable defender and a guy who would hit the boards for rebounds regardless of his genetic vertical deficiencies.
Mateo will be playing baseball at Victor Valley College next year and will look to continue his baseball, teaching, and coaching career at a four-year University after that.
Mateo graduates as a four-year scholar athlete with a 3.71 GPA.
