ELA 9 Bootcamp - Ms. Budesheim

This course will help incoming freshmen become acquainted with the format and expectations of the 9th grade curriculum. Students will practice critical reading of fiction and non-fiction, the essay writing process, and necessary study skills. They will also discuss the summer reading assignment given by their middle school teacher in preparation for the new school year. Please arrive with your summer reading selection and a willingness to prepare for learning. Regardless of level (Resource, CP, CPE, or Honors), the student will have the advantage of knowing what to expect in English class in September.
Writing Basics/ELA Bootcamp - Mrs. Copeland

This is a course for students in grades 9 - 11. This course will cover critical reading skills such as annotation, identifying plot structures, character analysis, and theme analysis. Writing skills such as sentence structure, grammar, essay structure, and strong thesis creation will be practiced in-depth. Students will become familiar and will practice the basic reading and writing skills that they will encounter at all levels of English Language Arts.
Boost! English for Newcomers and English Language Learners - Ms. Rodriguez

The summer is a great time to work with English language learners (ELLs)! Our Summer Language Development and Proficiency program will focus on individual student needs and help students hone their skills and practice their speaking, writing and listening skills by varied interactive activities. Programs such as this can help students improve their WIDA scores, boost self confidence and prepare them for the following school year all while having some fun!
Geometry Bootcamp - Ms. Janiszak

For students going into Geometry (10th and 11th graders), this course reviews of any prerequisites needed for the course. This includes solving equations and proportions, solving problems involving area, surface area, and volume, as well as plotting points on a coordinate plane and identifying shapes. Students will benefit from enhancing their skills in the prerequisite skills for success in Geometry.
Algebra 2 Bootcamp - Ms. Fischetto

In this course, students will review important Algebra 1 concepts in preparation for their Algebra 2 classes. In addition to direct instruction, students will review concepts using technology and student-centered activities focused on concepts such as graphing, linear equations, and factoring and solving quadratics.
Plants - Mr. Michels COURSE NOT RUNNING

In this course students will get to grow and care for plants! Students will grow plants from cuttings and from seeds. All propagated plants will be taken home with the students as part of the course. Plants grown will vary from houseplants, flowers, vegetables and landscape plants like decorative grasses. We will also tend to the Indian Hills Community Garden and other displays on campus. Most of the course will be spent outside or in our Greenhouse inside Indian Hills.
High School Science Lab Skills - Ms. McDonough

In this session, students of all grades will be given instruction on designing labs - identifying variables/controls and generating hypotheses. Students will then focus on collecting and analyzing data. It's a great course to brush up on science lab skills and come into the new school year science course feeling prepared.
Introduction to Physics Bootcamp - Mr. Wadhams

This course will give an introduction to physics for CP/CPE students who are interested in learning more about the course content and requisite math skills. Students will engage in learning activities typical for a high school Physics course as they discover the nuances of this area of Science.
AP US History Writing Bootcamp for Incoming Sophomores - Mr. Paravati

Stressed about enrolling in AP US History? Not sure what to expect? The APUSH Writing Bootcamp for Incoming Sophomores is designed to answer your questions, address your concerns, and give you time to familiarize yourself with the exam and course requirements before entering class in September. The course will introduce you to the writing requirements for the exam and the College Board rubrics for free response questions (DBQs, LEQs, and SAQs). You will be able to practice the historical writing skills required for the District’s course and the exam itself, like thesis-writing, document analysis, and source analysis. You will also have time to read sample responses from previous exams, as well as the opportunity to practice writing your own with real-time feedback and advice. In short, the course is designed to work for you, the new APUSH student, by providing a low-pressure opportunity to begin developing the skills needed to succeed in the District’s course and in the College Board exam during your junior year. .
Creating Art through Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture - Ms. Higbie

In this course, students will be building upon their prior art knowledge as well as exploring new techniques in the art studio. Students will work to develop their skills in one of the following mediums; drawing, painting, and/or Ceramics & Sculpture. The week-long course will consist of conceptualizing an idea, planning the idea, and creating their work of art in the medium of their choice. Students will be given a list of prompts at the beginning of the week.
Play with Paint - Ms. Batti-Valovina

Calling all creative students (9th - 12th grade). Come play, experiment, and investigate various paint techniques. The teacher will demonstrate a new technique at the beginning of each class and artists can use the rest of the open studio time to play, experiment, and investigate that technique/skill or develop a more complex work of art under the guidance of an art teacher.
Theater - Ms. Marino COURSE NOT RUNNING

Jump right into this fast paced and exhilarating theatrical experience. Students will create and perform in a musical that they write, design, direct, and choreograph in just four days. Students will collaborate, construct, and produce a short musical performance compiled entirely by the thoughts and ideas of the students. We will film and edit the performance as a fun memento of the week to share with family and friends. This program will include improvisation techniques, theater games, and much more.
