In the Exploration year (10th grade), students will be exposed to the vast array of career opportunities within the healthcare system. They will participate in four explorations in the areas of inpatient clinical services, support services, outpatient/clinical, and healthcare administration. The explorations are each one day field trips chaperoned by Science and English teachers with the coordinator.
The Rotation Year (11th grade): each student is provided an inside view of specific departments during five two- hour internship experiences. The Rotations serve to build a bridge between the academic classroom experience and the healthcare workplace setting. They will learn to conduct themselves responsibly in a professional environment and observe healthcare teams in action at Valley Hospital. Rotation experiences are small groups of 2 or 3 students within each department.
In the Mentorship Year (12th grade), each student is partnered with a mentor in one department of choice. This partner is a faculty member from The Valley Hospital and/or its affiliates. The students complete a year-long Capstone Project aided by their mentors to conduct research, write and defend a capstone paper and present in a Symposium at the end of the school year.
