Here are some of the most common questions that candidates ask (in no particular order):
1. Do I need to ask my teachers for a recommendation for my application?
You need to ask your science and English teachers for their permission to put their name down as a reference. The coordinator will provide the teachers with a recommendation form to complete on your behalf. Recommendations will include topics such as classroom behaviors, work ethic, study habits and levels of responsibility.
2. Am I able to take AP physics as a junior?
If you want to take AP physics as a junior, it will be taken as an elective course in your schedule. Your required science course is RAHP Anatomy and Physiology Honors. There is a required entrance test to determine eligibility for AP Physics as well as a recommendation by your chemistry teacher.
3. How does AP Capstone fit into my schedule as junior?
AP Capstone consists of two courses; AP Seminar during grade 11, AP Research during grade 12. AP Seminar will be embedded into your RAHP 11 English Class. This course is 5 credits and will earn AP credit upon completion of the AP exam. See sample schedules.
4. Will I miss classes for RAHP field trips?
Yes, you will miss full days of instruction for each 10th grade trip. In 11th grade you will miss only RAHP Anatomy/Physiology and English 11 classes. In 12th grade you will miss various different periods about once per month.
5. What is the policy on missing classes as a RAHP student?
Attending RAHP trips, which are a mandatory part of the program, are 'excused absences' and count toward your total accumulated absences. For a full year course, such as RAHP 10 Chemistry H or RAHP 11 English H for example, your total absences cannot exceed 12 for the year. For AP Seminar and AP Research, which are not full year courses or credit hours, your total absences cannot exceed 4.
6. What about taking higher level electives; can they fit into my schedule?
There have been instances where students are unable to schedule a higher level language such as, for example, German 4H or higher level music, such as chamber, due to the limited number of sections provided by those courses.
7. What makes a RAHP class different from a normal class on a day to day basis?
Students engage in a variety of RAHP specific activities throughout the year. This may include many things, such as RAHP specific lessons, activities centered around the medical application of the current topic being studied, and a greater focus on healthcare and the medical aspects of the topics studied. This further extends to reading more medically focused books and diving deeper into all topics relating to healthcare and medicine.
8. APUSH; an inquiry was made asking for feedback on taking APUSH as a sophomore RAHP student. Here's what I found! APUSH is a two year program; 10th grade and 11th grade. The exam is taken in 11th grade. Several RAHP students who have and are taking APUSH feel that while the workload is significant, they are prepared for it and can handle it. One student was in History of the Modern World Advanced as a freshman and felt that this course prepared them for APUSH.
