Our classroom includes learning activities that foster each child’s growth and development academically, socially, and emotionally. Children learn best in an atmosphere of warmth, acceptance, active involvement, routine, and clear expectations. Our classroom includes spaces where children can work and learn in individual, small group, and whole group settings. Throughout the school year, your child will be exposed to many different kinds of learning experiences through instruction in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Social Emotional Learning, Science, Music, Art, and Physical Education.
Social Emotional Learning
As a community of learners, students will receive explicit, direct skill instruction through our CharacterStrong program. This instruction is designed to help us grow in three powerful outcomes: Be Strong, Be Kind, and Be Well.
Each day, we will take time to focus on building and maintaining healthy relationships, managing emotions, practicing empathy, problem solving, and developing skills for learning. We will do this through read-alouds, activities, daily morning meetings, and structured lessons using our Character Strong curriculum. Thirty minutes is dedicated to this at the start of each day.
This work will be revisited often and displayed in our classroom as a reminder of our commitment to one another.
