Classroom Environment

Our classroom includes learning activities that foster each child’s growth and development academically, socially, and emotionally. Children learn best in an atmosphere of warmth, acceptance, active involvement, routine, and clear expectations. Our classroom includes spaces where children can work and learn in individual, small group, and whole group settings. Throughout the school year, your child will be exposed to many different kinds of learning experiences through instruction in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Social Emotional Learning, Science, Music, Art, and Physical Education.

Class Pledge

As a community of learners, we will work hard to follow our school-wide rules of being respectful, responsible, and resilient. To show our commitment to this, together we will create a class pledge. This pledge will include behaviors that the students would like to see themselves and others exhibit in our classroom. We will then sign our names to represent our intention of following this pledge. This poster is revisited often and displayed in our classroom as a reminder of our promise to each other.

Social Emotional Learning

Each day, we will be taking time to focus on building & maintaining healthy relationships, managing emotions as they relate to ourselves and others, empathy, problem solving, and developing skills for learning. This is done through various read alouds, activities, daily morning meetings, and a structured lessons using our Second Steps curriculum. Thirty minutes is dedicated to this at the start of each day.
