Dermatologists are doctors who diagnose and treat people's skin, hair, and nails. Some common conditions they treat are acne, eczema, hair loss, skin cancer, etc. To become a dermatologist, you would need to complete a four year college, four years in medical school, one year in internship, three years of residency, then one to two years of fellowship (not required). Then you would need a certification/licence from your state.
A diagnostic medical sonographer is a healthcare professional who uses special imaging equipment, called ultrasound, to create pictures of the inside of the body. These images help doctors diagnose and monitor medical conditions involving organs, tissues, and blood flow. They work closely with physicians, explain procedures to patients, and ensure clear, accurate images for diagnosis.
A specialist who is trained to evaluate how the eye functions and interprets test results. They also diagnose any eye movement disorders that may occur, and formulate individual patients treatment plans. Often associated with optometrists, the Orthoptist is more specialized in eye movement problems and binocular vision. To become an Orthoptist, you would need to complete a bachelors degree (biology, social sciences, or a related field). Then you would need to complete a two year fellowship training program from a certified body.
Neurodiagnostic technologist records/studies electrical activity in the brain and nervous system to help diagnose patients conditions such as epilepsy, sleep disorders, and nerve problems. They perform tasks like EEGs (electroencephalograms) and nerve studies, prepare patients for procedures, and ensure accurate data is sent to doctors for interpretation. To become this career, you would need to obtain associate degree or a certificate in neurodiagnostic technology or electroneurodiagnostic technology.
Cytogenetic technologists harvest and prepare cultures of live cells. Once you are able to harvest these cells, the next step is to examine/analyze any chromosome defects that may be displayed and reporting your findings to a physician. They often work in hospitals, medical clinics, educational institutions, government facilities, and for private labs. To become a cytogenetic technologist, you would need to obtain a four year bachelors degree in cytogenetic technology, biotechnology, biology, or a related science. Most (although not required), enter a post-graduate program (1-2 years) to be able to gain extra training and to be certified. Although depending on the state you live in, there may be more training required to become certified.
Epidemiologists often are public health workers who investigate patterns of diseases. To become this medical career, you would need to obtain a masters degree in public health or a related field. Then a doctoral degree in epimology or medicine. On a typical day, you would work in offices and laboratories which are health departments for state or local governments.
Uses therapeutic technologies to help patients with inguries, illnesses, and/or disabilities. Which can help reach patients functional, physical, emotional, psychological, and cognitive goals. To become a recreational therapist, you would need a bahelor's degree (in recreational therapist), attand a supervised internship for at least 560 hous, then pass the NCTRC national certification exam. Some other requirements include that a person has compassion, patients, leadership, resourcefulness, and has listening/speaking skills.
Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) provides basic health care and support for patients. They usually answer calls from patients, check and monitor patient vital signs, clean medical supplies, and make sure that the patient's nutritional and hydration needs are met. Although there are no education requirements (high school degree needed), you would be tested on knowledge and skill. To gain the skill needed, you could attend a 4-6 week training program. After the training, you would then need to complete a written and hands-on exam in order to demonstrate the knowledge and skill you have gained in the training. You should consider becoming a CNA if you are best being a team player, pay careful attention to detail, and have patience towards others.
Health specialist that focuses on children. They help families navigate the process of illness, injury, disability, trauma, or hospitalization. Creativity is often used to find ways of helping children along with working with other specialists in developing coping plans. To become a child life specialist, you would need a bachelors degree in child life studies, other education determined by the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP), have previous experience of working with children, and complete a 600 hour child life specialist internship.
Known for treating patients from all ages, with hearing, balance, and/or ear problems. Common roles and responsibilities they have are interpreting hearing test results, developing treatment methods and plans, training various patients the use of hearing technologies, and conduct research to enhance the knowledge of hearing loss of patients. To become an audiologist, you would need to complete a bachelor's degree (in any field), then complete a doctoral degree (in audiology), earn a certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A), then obtain a licence to be able practice as an audiologist in your specific state.
