The course selection process for the upcoming school year begins at the end of January. Students should prepare by reviewing the Program of Studies and discussing potential recommendations with their current teachers.
January 5th, 12th, & 26th: Grade-Level Advisory Presentations - Essential info. shared during advisory.
January 24th: PowerSchool Portal Opens - View teacher recommendations and begin entering requests.
January 26th - February 12th: Counselor Meetings - One-on-one sessions to verify and confirm course requests.
February 8th: Override Deadline - Last day to meet with Department Chairs for AP/UConn or double-up overrides.
February 12th: Final Selection Deadline - Last day to make changes before being placed on a summer waitlist.
9th Grade: Will visit School Counseling with their English classes starting January 27th.
10th Grade: Will visit School Counseling with their History classes starting February 4th.
11th Grade: Students are responsible for booking their own meeting during a free block using the calendar link emailed by their counselor.
Preparation: Review the Program of Studies and complete your Course Selection Worksheets before meeting with your counselor.
Selection Logic: Courses are not first-come, first-served. The master schedule is built based on overall student interest.
Balance: Choose a schedule that challenges you while maintaining a healthy balance between school and extracurricular activities.
Final Schedules: Will be released in mid-August.
Pro Tip: Entering your requests into PowerSchool before your counselor meeting will make the one-on-one session much more efficient!
In January, RHS counselors will visit SRMS and ERMS for Course Selection and High School presentation.
February 12th is the deadline for course request adjustments.
Course requests will not be changed after this date.

Beginning in mid March, RHS school counseling office will begin contacting those students whose registrations are complete to meet with a school counselor. This meeting will allow incoming students and families to ask questions and select their courses for the 2026-27 school year.
