Multi-week classes meet once per week on a scheduled weekday or weekend for 1–1.5 hours per session. Programs typically run for six or eight weeks. Some classes may include planned “skip weeks” to align with school vacations or holidays.
Camps are offered during school vacation weeks in February and April, with the majority taking place during summer break from late June through late August. Camp sessions meet 1.5–3 hours per day. While most camps run for five consecutive days, some may be shortened to two, three, or four days based on partner scheduling needs.
Workshops are offered throughout the year and take place on a single day, typically lasting 1–2 hours.
Classes and camps are held at local recreation departments, schools, and nonprofit organizations, and may also take place on-site at RICM in our dedicated classroom space. Most workshops are held at public libraries or at RICM. Select offerings are available online through the Outschool platform.
Our in-person programs are not exclusive to Rhode Island! We have programs available in eastern Massachusetts as well.
Yes! You can browse for programs that we are conducting in your geographical area by referring to our calendar.
Start by contacting your local community recreation department or library to see if they offer any RICM programs. If they don’t, help us change that! Share your interest with them, and let them know you’d like RICM programming for your child.
Our programs are primarily offered to grades 3–5 and 6–8, with content and pacing adjusted to be age-appropriate.
Our partners set their own policies and procedures for students who do not fall within the designated grade range. You can often find this information on your community recreation department’s or library’s website, where policies may be posted publicly. If you are unable to find such information, contact the staff at your local community recreation department or library for further assistance. Some of them grant your child immediate entry, some may have an age exception form that you can complete, and some may refuse admission. Each organization is unique.
If a program you’re interested in is currently full, you can secure a place on the waitlist and be notified if an opening becomes available. Community recreation departments and libraries will often have a waitlist feature available on their registration pages, and will contact you if a spot happens to open up.
We also encourage you to review our calendar for additional sections of the program that may be offered on other dates or during different times.
If you are in the process of registering your child for a program that is being offered in-house at RICM, and you have questions or concerns, please contact Schola at support@assemblyk12.com and be sure to copy sol@ricomputermuseum.org. Assembly™ is being continuously improved, and we welcome any feedback or ideas that you have regarding your user experience!
