Summer Reading Assignment
June 2022
Dear Rising 8th Graders,
I have thought long and hard about your summer assignment this year and have formulated an assignment that will meet my two major goals for you. This assignment will inspire you to read over the next nine weeks. You will also get a jump start on your 20-Book Challenge!
TASK ONE: Choose one “Free Reading” book to read over the summer and then
donate to our class library. You can take this home at the end of the year, or leave it in the library permanently!
How do you choose a “Free Reading” book? Usually, I recommend that you ask me, your local librarian, wander the aisles of The Book Loft, or call a friend and ask for a recommendation. Keep searching until you find a perfect-for-you book!
TASK TWO: Read your book. Laugh, cry, sigh, giggle, guffaw - whatever is
appropriate for your chosen genre. You have until the first day of school to accomplish this. If you do not remember books after you read them, be sure to make some notes about the characters and the plot, as you will need this information in class.
TASK THREE: Have a wonderful summer!
TASK FOUR: Bring your book to school on the first day! I can’t wait to see
you on August 31, 2022
Love,
Mrs. Kanz
