The Challenge: Students spent the month of October learning how to be a good digital citizen. Digital citizenship is the ability to make smart decisions online. Students listened to the story "#golidlocks: A Hashtag Cautionary Tale" and discussed the difference between private and personal information. Students then particiapted in a game where they helped Golidlocks get home while collecting her private information. Students completed the board game by doing some unplugged coding which is coding without a computer.Â

The Challenge: Students celebrated Dot Day in STEAM by learning about Bernoulli's Principle. Dot Day is a day that promotes collaboration, creativity, and courage which is why it is celebrated every year in STEAM class. Students related Bernoulli's principle to the idea that planes and birds are able to stay in the sky without flapping their wings. They then got to test it out themselves using a ping pong ball and a straw. With a little practice, hard-work, and determination, students were able to get their ball to float in the air!
The Challenge: Students imagined they were on a ship headed towards their dream vacation when a violent storm struck, causing their ship to start sinking. Students were presented with a list of 20 different items, but only had 7 minutes to grab the 7 items that they thought would help their group survive on a deserted island. Students needed to consider how they would get fresh water, food, shelter, and a way to signal to rescuers. This activity promoted critical thinking and collaboration within their teams.
