About Our Library

The Spring Valley Library, AKA “The “Brary” is a vibrant learning commons that is not merely the sum total of its digital and physical resources but a collaborative of individuals who create the environment that fosters creativity and critical thinking skills as we all look toward new opportunities for one another as well as our surrounding community. We realize we are an extension of our neighborhood and strive to honor and reflect its citizens.

The landscape beyond high school is ever-changing and in response to the social and learning gaps created by the pandemic, our library programs and resources are designed with an eye toward supporting an environment that helps narrow this achievement gap. We know that Rome was not built in a day, but by creating a space that asks our students to depend on one another and connect, we strive for a culture that is undergirded by grit and resilience.

This focus on a growth mindset, does not strive for perfection but an attitude that libraries are safe spaces to try, explore, revise, reinvent, and redouble our efforts. Perfection is not the goal.

The ‘Brary is a conduit to create responsible digital citizens. Our content, curriculum, and conversations seek to make our students and faculty aware of safe online practices and support them as savvy consumers of social media and online content. This attention to media literacy prepares patrons for the digital landscape.

We hope to help our learning community see “what could be” through our programming and support. This academic and creative maker-space is evidence of our commitment to the power of community and the belief that everyone can achieve.

We offer classes, workshops, activities, and lunchtime clinics to help our Viking community find their passion and purpose.

It is always a great day to be a Viking,
