5-10-24
Straw Rockets
Today students were rocket scientists! They designed and tested straw rockets to see whose could fly the highest!
4-16-24
Parachutes
Today students designed a parachute from scratch to have the longest hang time. Students used the EDP to design a parachute out of everyday items. We tested their designs on the playground.
12-13-23
Gingerbread Houses
Today students designed and decorated their own gingerbread houses with milk cartons, graham crackers, frosting, and all sorts of candies.
11-29-23
Catapults
Today, students learned about simple machines. They built a catapult and launched items.
10-02-23
Perfect Packaging
Today students observed the properties of different materials, then they created packaging to protect crackers from a fall.
9-8-23
I Can Do Hard Things
Today the students learned about a growth mindset by participating in a challenge to move their fuzzy friend from one spot to another without using their hands!
8-31-23
Paper Chain Challenge
Today the students were challenged to make the longest paper chain with limited supplies & time.
Build a Better Lunch Box Challenge
We are working on building a lunch box with good insulation that will keep an ice cube from melting!
2-23-23 Evaporation & Condensation
Today we explored evaporation and condensation. We investigated how temperature is a factor.
2-14-23 Measuring Temperature
Today we explored heat and how to measure temperature effectively. We learned how to read thermometers correctly, and we discussed Celsius v/s Fahrenheit.
2-6-23 Changing States of Matter
Today we observed 3 solids change states of matter. We had an ice cube, a pat of butter, and chocolate chips. The ice melted into a liquid at room temperature. We put the butter and chocolate chips in a hot water bath. The butter easily melted into a liquid form, but the chocolate only softened. After we took the butter and chocolate off the heat source, they cooled down and solidified back into solids at room temperature. We discovered that to change states of matter, there has to be a change in heat.
1-27-23 States of Matter
Today we explored the 3 states of matter. Solid, Liquid and Gas.
1-9-23 Concrete
Today we learned about concrete and how it is made of natural resources to build things. We also created a stepping stone made of concrete. We each placed a shell to create a unique design.
12-14-22
Acid Rain Results
Today we learned more about acid rain, what causes it, how it effects the enviroment and how to prevent it. We observed and analyzed the results of our acid rain experiment.
12-6-22 Chemical Weathering
Today we learned about chemical weathering and acid rain. We used vinegar to simulate acid rain on 4 different types of rocks.
11-28-22
Physical Weathering
Today we investigated physical weathering. We compared granite rock to rock conglomerate. We put them in jars and shook them, causing abrasion.
11-9-22 Today we studied soil samples. We learned that all soil is composed of pebbles, gravel, sand, silt and humus.
9-15-22 Today we continued to observe our mealworms. We saw changes!! Several of our mealworms changed forms into a pupa!! It will take 6-10 days for this part of their life cycle to complete and move on to their final stage!!
9-7-22- Today, We were introduced to mealworms!! We observed their behaviors! We drew them in our note books and labeled their body parts. We also set up an environment for them to live in. We gave them food, water, shelter, and air!
8-19-22 Today we got to use the engineering design process to make name plates to solve the problem of Mrs. Jones not knowing our names. We tested our creation and made changes to improve it!
5-16-22 We investigated magnets and their properties.
3-24-22 Today we investigated how matter can change states and that sometimes the change is irreversible. We had PANCAKES!!!! The batter went from a solid dissolved into a liquid, then the liquid batter was heated and it changed back into a solid and it could not be reversed, so we ate them!!! YUM, YUM, YUM!!
2-7-22 Today, we investigated whether toothpaste is a liquid or a solid. What do you think?
1-6-22 We learned about concrete and how it is made. We made a class stepping stone made out of concrete.
11-12-21 We are studying the effects of physical weathering on granite and rock conglomerate!
10-19-21 We created our very own fossils!
10-7-21 We were introduced to new organisms! Isopods are not insects but crustaceans more closely related to crabs than our mealworms. We discovered that our isopods or rollie pollies, need moisture in their environment to breathe and they prefer a dark environment.
9-20-21 Third graders examine their Mealworms which have changed into Darkling Beatles!
9-29-21 We went on a Producer, Consumer & Decomposer scavenger hunt in the woods around our school. We found plenty of producers (plants), evidence of consumers like deer and wild pig and we saw some awesome decomposers like mushrooms and millipedes.
Fun With Magnets! We explored what objects were magnetic. 5-26-2021
Fun with Circuits
We are exploring circuits and learning about conductors and insulators.
States of Matter: We observed the properties of water on a slope.
We made a stepping stone out of concrete. We added rocks to decorate it.
